EMBALLAGE METALLIQUE A REBORD PROFILE SCELLABLE.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

METAL PACKAGING WITH SEALABLE PROFILE EDGE.
The present invention relates to a metal package comprising a barrel and a profiled rim disposed perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the barrel, which is closed with a seal by a removable film.
In a metallic packaging of this kind which is already known by the model. German utility DE-G-82 11 578.8 Ul, the profiled rim 1 is deformed from the inside to the outside and its outside diameter 2 can be compressed to a value not greater than that of the barrel 3 so that a cover can be pushed over the barrel. The profiled rim 1 has, in its upper region 4, transverse to the longitudinal axis of the metal packaging, a flat surface in the form of a circle crown, formed by flattening, and which serves as a sealing surface for a cover or a film . This known metal packaging is designed in particular for creams, greases and the like and it is not stackable in a way which makes it possible to obtain protection against lateral sliding.
The object of the invention is to produce a metallic packaging of the kind mentioned at the start, in a stackable form.
This problem is solved by the fact that the profiled rim is surrounded by a keg fold which extends beyond the profiled rim in the direction of the longitudinal axis.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Thanks to this particular arrangement of the profiled rim, on the one hand, the sheet sealed on the profiled rim is protected and, on the other hand, the metal packaging is made stackable.
An upper metal packaging can therefore be embedded by its lower edge in the upper region of the metal packaging located below, so that the fold of the barrel surrounds the lower edge and prevents it from shifting laterally.
Compared to traditional metal packaging with a removable cover, the invention provides considerable cost savings by using the sealed sheet on the profiled rim to serve as a closure. Another advantage is that the sheet can be very easily torn from the profiled edge.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the layers of sheet metal of the bend of the barrel are arranged at a distance from each other.
This characteristic is recommended in the case of sheets which are sensitive to bending with too sharp edges and / or excessive drawing of these sheets, and also when it is desired to obtain a particular geometry in the region of the bend of the barrel.
According to another characteristic, the layers of metal sheets of the keg fold are pressed against each other in the region of a vertex of the keg fold. This characteristic allows advantageously low radial stretching of the bend of the barrel.
. According to another characteristic of the invention, the fold of the barrel extends radially outward beyond the rest of the barrel and the fold of the barrel surrounds an inner end of an upper metal packaging stacked on the metal packaging. These features facilitate stacking.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
According to another characteristic of the invention, an exterior surface of the keg fold is at least approximately in alignment with an exterior surface of the keg. This characteristic facilitates the manufacture of metal packaging.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the profiled rim is formed by layers of sheets arranged one above the other. This characteristic makes it possible to obtain a particularly rigid profiled rim and having a high resistance to deformation.
According to another characteristic of the invention, a free end of the profiled rim is disposed outside an interior volume of the metal packaging. These characteristics are advantageous when there is a fear of corrosion by bringing the free ends of the profiled rim into contact with the filling product of the metal packaging.
According to another characteristic, the free end of the profiled rim is directed towards the outside and an external edge of the film is arranged in the region of the free end of the profiled rim. This characteristic makes it possible to obtain good rigidity of the profiled edge and an advantageously large sealing surface for the film. The radial extension of the profiled edge can be reduced to a minimum.
According to other characteristics, a free end of the profiled rim is disposed inside the interior space of the metal packaging; or the free end of the profiled rim is directed outwards; or the free end of the profiled rim is directed inward and the profiled rim is formed of three thicknesses of sheets in the region of its free end and two
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
sheet thicknesses in the remaining part. These characteristics can be used with advantage when there is no need to fear corrosion of the free end of the profile by the contents of the metal packaging.
Several embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example.

Figure-1 shows a metal package 1, constituting a can, and comprising a barrel 2 against which is mounted a bottom, joined at a double fold 3. At the upper end of the barrel 2, there is a profiled edge 4 which is closed with a tight seal using a removable film 5. The
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
profiled rim 4 is surrounded by a barrel fold 7 which extends beyond the profiled rim 4 in the direction of the longitudinal axis 6 of the metal packaging 1.
The barrel 2 can be manufactured in one piece or in two pieces from thin or very thin sheet metal, in a manner known per se. The weldable film is of sufficient thickness and is preferably metallic. The film 5 can be welded by hot contact welding or by ultrasound. Depending on the use case, the material and / or the thickness of the. film 5 can be calculated so as to be able to withstand in the film itself as well as the welding region, all the stresses which may arise in service. Such welded film closures are even capable of withstanding sterilization, so that they can be used without difficulty in the wide field of use of cans.
According to Figure 2, the profiled rim 4 extends transversely to the longitudinal axis 6 (Figure 1) of the metal packaging 1. The profiled rim 4 is in this case formed of two sheet thicknesses 8 and 9 and, externally , of a third sheet thickness 10.
A free end 11 of the profiled rim 4 is directed inwards, so that an annular cavity 12 is formed inside the profiled rim 4.
In this embodiment, the free end 11 of the profiled rim 4 is certainly disposed inside the interior space 13 of the metal packaging 1 but it is protected from direct contact with the filling material, not shown, metal packaging 1.
The fold 7 of the barrel has layers of sheets 14 and 15 which are arranged at a certain distance from one another. The fold 7 extends radially towards
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the outside, far enough beyond the rest of the barrel 12 so that the double ply 3 of an upper metallic packaging 16 of the same kind can be stacked on the inner metallic packaging 1. In this construction, the ply 7 of the barrel surrounds the lower part of the double ply 3, so that the upper metal packaging 16 can no longer move laterally relative to the lower metal packaging 1. The metal packaging 1.16 is therefore stackable.
Figure 3 is a top view of the film 5, which is essentially circular and has a tear tab 17 at a single point on its circumference.
In all the exemplary embodiments, the identical elements are designated by the same reference numbers.
According to Figure 4, the profiled rim 4 is composed of two sheet thicknesses 18 and 19 applied one against the other. The free end 11 of the profiled rim 4 is directed towards the outside and it is disposed outside of the interior cavity 13.
In Figure 4, the barrel 2 of the metal package 16 is constricted in its lower part. In this way, the double fold 3 is located more inside than in the case of FIGS. 1 and 2, so that the fold 7 of the barrel does not have to extend outwards beyond the barrel. 2 as far as in Figures 1 and 2.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 5, the lower part of the barrel of the metal packaging 16 is even more strongly inwardly narrowed than in FIG. 4, so that the outer surface 20 of the fold 7 of the barrel can be in alignment with the outer surface 21 of the barrel 2. In this case, the
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
layers of sheet metal 14.15 of the fold 7 of the barrel are moreover pressed one against the other in the region of the top 22 of the fold 7 of the barrel.
In FIG. 5, the sheet metal layers 18, 19 of the profiled rim 4 are again in contact with one another. However, in this case, the free end 11 of the profiled rim 4 is located in the interior volume 13 of the metal packaging 1.
In the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 6, the conformation of the profiled edge 4 and the conformation of the fold 7 of the barrel correspond to those of FIG. 5.
In metal packaging 1.16, it is on the other hand what is called two-piece packaging, that is to say packaging in which the barrel 2 was manufactured in one piece with the bottom 23, by deep drawing. At the transition between the barrel 2 and the bottom 23, the barrel 2 is slightly constricted towards the inside, so that, also in this case, the external surface 20 of the fold 7 of the barrel can be in alignment with the surface 21 of the barrel 2.
According to FIG. 7, this is again what is called metal packages 1.16 in two pieces, but in which the barrel is not constricted inwards in the region of the bottom. In this way, it is necessary for the outer surface 20 of the fold 7 of the barrel to project slightly outward beyond the outer surface 21 of the barrel 2. The profiled rim 4 is here also of a conformation which corresponds to Figure 4.
