<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

BRUSH AND PARTICULARLY A TOOTHBRUSH, SUPPORT AND HANDLE FOR SUCH A BRUSH.
The present invention relates to a brush, in particular a toothbrush having a bristle support capable of turning relative to the handle of the brush.
There is known a toothbrush consisting of a handle carrying a motor driving a shaft on which is fixed a support for bristles. Such a brush allows rotation of the support only in one direction so that effective cleaning of the teeth cannot be guaranteed.
Finally, in such a brush, the force applied to the handle to obtain a determined pressure of the bristles on the teeth is transmitted by the device for guiding and rotating the shaft. This therefore does not allow sufficient free rotation of the support (without motor drive). On the other hand, the motor drives the support in rotation at a substantially constant speed regardless of the pressure of the bristles on the teeth. This can cause degradation of the tooth enamel when the
EMI1.1
bristle pressure on the teeth is too great. hurry
The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks.
It relates to a brush and in particular a toothbrush for which the support can rotate in both directions and for which the force applied to the handle to obtain a determined pressure of bristles on the teeth is essentially transmitted by an organ other than the support guide device, during the rotation of the latter.
The brush according to the invention does not use a motor and makes it possible to adapt the speed of rotation of the support as a function of the pressure applied to the teeth (low speed when the pressure is high) so that the tooth enamel not at risk of being attacked
The brush and in particular the toothbrush according to the invention consists of a handle and a bristle support, said support being connected to the handle by at least one device allowing a rotational movement of the support relative to the handle.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Said device comprises at least a first element secured to the support and a second element secured to the handle, said first and second elements being capable of rotating relative to each other.
One of said elements is a shaft, while the other element is a sleeve or recess in which said shaft is engaged at least partially. One of the elements is provided with an annular protuberance intended to be engaged in a groove presented by the other element, said protuberance serving as means for guiding the elements between them during the rotation of the support.
Finally, one of said elements has a vertex or point on which a surface of the other element bears when the support rotates. This top or tip is intended to transmit the pressure force of the bristles against the teeth while limiting the friction during the rotation of the support, so that the rotation of the support is possible thanks to the simple back and forth movement of the handle.
In one embodiment of the brush according to the invention, the shaft has, near its free end, a substantially conical surface, while the sleeve is provided near its end opposite its free end with a bottom whose surface is substantially conical, said conical surfaces of the shaft and of the bottom being surfaces symmetrical with respect to the same axis of symmetry. This axis of symmetry advantageously corresponds to the axis of rotation of the support.
According to a feature of this embodiment, there is a difference between the angle formed between a generator and the axis of symmetry of the conical surface of the shaft and the angle formed between a generator and the axis of symmetry. of the bottom, so that the conical surface of the shaft is supported essentially only on the end point of the bottom.
This difference in angles is advantageously between
EMI2.1
10 and 50 so as to limit any pivoting of the support relative to the handle in a plane passing through the axis of symmetry of the shaft.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
The angle formed between a generatrix and the axis of symmetry of the conical surface of the shaft is between 20 and 650 and is preferably about 300.
In a particular embodiment, the sleeve or recess has a series of adjacent parts whose free ends are separated from each other so that said parts can undergo a slight radial displacement during the introduction of the shaft. in the sleeve. Said parts thus allow the support to be fixed.
According to a particular feature of this embodiment, the shaft carries the annular protuberance, while said parts have grooves, said protuberance-groove system serving as means for fixing the support to the handle.
According to another feature of a brush according to the invention, the handle carries a shaft consisting of a first part adjacent to the handle and of a second part extending between said first part and the free end of the shaft. Said first part is provided with the protrusion in the vicinity of its end adjacent to the second part. Advantageously, said first and second parts are cylindrical, the diameter of the first part being greater than that of the second part.
A brush according to this feature makes it possible to limit any pivoting of the support relative to the handle in a plane passing through the axis of symmetry of the shaft.
In a particular embodiment, the support has a central recess consisting of a rear chamber extended by a series of adjacent fingers having a groove for guiding and fixing the support.
The present invention also relates to a support provided with bristles for a brush according to the invention. This support has in one embodiment a central recess forming a rear chamber which is extended by a series of adjacent fingers having a groove for guiding and fixing the support on a handle.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
For example, the support is a disc or a substantially circular piece carrying bristles or tufts of bristles extending in a direction perpendicular to a face of the support.
Finally, the present invention also relates to an ergonomic handle for a brush and in particular a toothbrush, according to the invention.
The handle is an elongated substantially straight piece having on the one hand a hollow and on the other hand a bump. The hollow is intended to receive the end of the user's index finger, while the hump serves as a support for the stop for the end of the user's thumb.
The handle and the support of the brush and in particular of the toothbrush are advantageously made of a material suitable for injection, such as a plastic material, in particular acetal copolymer.
Other particularities and details of the invention appear from the following detailed description of an embodiment of a brush and in particular of a toothbrush according to the invention shown in the attached drawings.
In these drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a brush according to the invention; Figure 2 is a top view of the brush shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view of the brush head shown in Figure 1, and Figures 4 and 5 are top and bottom views of the bristle support of the brush shown in Figure 1. -
In Figures 1 and 2 is shown a brush and in particular a penny brush according to the invention.
The brush and in particular the toothbrush consists of a handle 1 and a support 2 of bristles 3. The support 2 is connected to the handle 1 by a device 4 allowing a rotational movement of the support 2 relative to the handle 1. The device 4 is such that it allows during a back-and-forth movement (V) from the handle to
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
during a tooth brushing operation a rotational movement of the support in a direction Ro and then in the opposite direction R1. Such a movement makes it possible to better dislodge food debris located in the space located between two adjacent teeth.
The handle 1 is an elongated piece of substantially rectilinear shape having two opposite faces 5, 6. The face 5 has a recess 7 intended to receive the end of the index finger of a user while the face 6 carries a bump 8 support or stop for the end of the thumb of the user. The bump 8 has a curved surface conforming to the shape of the end of the thumb. In the form shown, the hollow and the bump are located substantially opposite one another.
The device 4 allowing the support 2 to rotate relative to the handle 1 shown on a larger scale in FIG. 3 comprises a first element 9 secured to the handle 1 and a second element 10 secured to the support 2.
The first element 9 is a shaft provided with an annular protuberance 11 intended to be engaged in a groove 12 that has the other element 10. Said protuberance serves as a means of guiding the elements during the rotation of the support 2. This protrusion also makes it possible to fix the support on the shaft 9.
The shaft 9 has in the vicinity of its free end a substantially conical surface 13 ending in a vertex 13 '. This top 13 ′ is supported on a surface 14 of the element 10.
The disc-shaped support 2 has a central recess
15 in which the shaft 9 is engaged.
The surface 14 which is substantially conical forms the bottom of the recess 15.
The conical surfaces of the shaft 9 and of the bottom are symmetrical with respect to the same axis of symmetry AA which is the axis of rotation of the support 2. There is a difference between the angle Z formed between a generatrix and the axis of symmetry of the conical surface 13 of the shaft 9 and the angle Z1 formed between a generator and
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
the axis of symmetry of the conical surface of the bottom 14 so that the conical surface 13 of the shaft rests only on the point
EMI6.1
end 16 of the bottom 14. This difference in angle is 10 so as to limit any pivoting P of the support relative to the axis A-A.
The recess 15 comprises a rear chamber 17 extended by a series of adjacent fingers 18 whose free ends are separated from each other. Said fingers 18 have the grooves 12 into which the annular protuberance 11 is introduced.
The fingers 18 can thus pivot slightly relative to the axis AA (arrow Q) so that by exerting a traction (T) or a push on the handle relative to the support, it is possible to separate the support 2 from the handle 1 or to fix the support 2 on the handle 1.
The support 2 carries on the face 22 opposite to that having the recess 15 a series of tufts of bristles 3. These tufts are introduced into cavities 19. These tufts are placed in three rows, the number of tufts in the outer row being three times that of the interior row, while the number of tufts in the middle row is twice that of the interior row.
These bristles extend in a direction substantially perpendicular to the face 22.
The shaft 9 consists of a first part 9I adjacent to the handle 1 and of a second part gI1 extending between said first part 91 and the free end of the shaft 9.
The first part 9I carries the protuberance 11 in the vicinity of its end adjacent to the second part gII. The diameter
DI of the first part is greater than the diameter DII of the second part 9
