<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
diméthylamino-2 propanol 1, diméthylamino-3 propanol 1, diméthylamino-1 propanol-2, N-méthyl N-éthyl- éthanolamine, diéthylamino-2 éthanol, diméthylamino-3 butanol-1, diméthylamino-3 butanol-2, N-méthyl Nisopropyléthanolamine, N-méthyl N-éthyl amino-3 propanol, diméthylamino-4 butanol-1, diméthylamino-4 butanol-2, diméthylamino-3 méthyl-2 propanol-1, diméthylamino-1 méthyl-2 propanol-2, diméthylamino-2 butanol-l, diméthylamino-2 méthyl-2 propanol-1.
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Enfin, la présente invention a encore pour objet - un procédé de traitement de gaz, tels que des gaz acides, dans lequel on pulvérise ou injecte dans les gaz à traiter un mélange suivant l'invention, en particulier un mélange obtenu par le procédé suivant l'invention ;

<Desc/Clms Page number 8>

<Desc/Clms Page number 12>

Mixture of Calcium and / or Magnesium hydroxide, process for its preparation and its use.
The present invention relates to a mixture of calcium hydroxide and / or magnesium and water having a solids content of less than 50% by weight.
Mixtures of this type are known. They are in the form of milk or paste and contain lime (Ca (OH) 2) and / or dolomite (Ca (OH) 2Mg (OH) 2) in the form of hydrate.
By milk is meant an aqueous suspension of calcium hydroxide and / or magnesium with a solids content of less than about 25% by weight. Such milk can be obtained by reacting quicklime and / or decarbonated dolomite with water, the water / lime and / or decarbonated dolomite ratio is generally greater than 3. The consistency of such milk is essentially liquid.
The term paste is understood to mean a mixture of calcium hydroxide and / or magnesium and water, the solids content of which is between approximately 25 and 50% by weight. The consistency of such a paste can vary from a very viscous liquid to a thick paste. Such a paste can be obtained by reacting quicklime and / or decarbonated dolomite with water, the water / lime and / or decarbonated dolomite ratio being between 2 and 3.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Milks or pastas can also be prepared by simply mixing dry powdery hydrates and water. However, from an economic point of view, it is more advantageous to react quicklime (CaO) and / or decarbonated dolomite (CaO. MgO) with water to prepare milk or pasta. During the CaO and / or CaO exothermic reaction. MgO + H2O (extinction reaction), the temperature of the reaction medium can reach a temperature close to 100 ° C., the maximum temperature reached depends on the proportions of water and lime and / or decarbonated dolomite used.
EMI2.1
Lime and / or dolomite milks (HO-Ca (OH) 2 and / or Ca (OH) -Mg (OH) 2 mixture) are used in chemical processes, for example neutralization of water, ... ; in soil stabilization processes; in processes for the purification of acid gases; in processes for the production of precipitated calcium carbonate; etc.
EMI2.2
Ca (OH) 2 and / or Ca (OH) 2 - Mg (OH) 2 pastes are, for example, used in the construction industry for the manufacture of mortars, plasters, etc.
The quality of the Ca (OH) 2 milks and / or pastes optionally mixed with Mg (OH) 2 and their property, for example their reactivity depend on the dimen-
EMI2.3
and the structure of agglomerates or micelles of Ca (OH) 2 and / or Ca (OH) 2 - Mg (OH) 2 in suspension. It has been noted that the particles of Ca (OH) 2 and / or Ca (OH) 2Mg (OH) 2 of the agglomerates or micelles must have a small particle size and a large porosity in order to obtain a milk or paste of high reactivity and for
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
reduce or avoid sedimentation of particles.
In the case of pastes, it has been noted that a small particle size and a large porosity made it possible to obtain mortars having a high plasticity and a high water retention power.
This particle size and porosity of the particles are two parameters influencing the specific surface of the micelles or agglomerates. Consequently, the reactivity of milks or pastes can be determined or estimated by a specific surface measurement.
Tests have already been carried out to obtain milks or pastes whose micelles or agglomerates have a large specific surface. In these tests, various factors were varied such as - degree of calcination of the oxides (CaO, MgO); - fineness of grind; - extinction temperature; - grinding, and - intensity of agitation.
By choosing the optimum parameters, that is to say - oxides obtained by calcination at low temperature (900 C) and finely ground; - extinguishing temperature above 60 C: - vigorous stirring; and - prolonged wet grinding, it was possible to manufacture agglomerates and / or micelles whose specific surface was approximately 25 m 2 / g.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The subject of the present invention is a milk or paste of calcium hydroxide and / or magnesium, that is to say a water-calcium hydroxide mixture and / or magnesium whose solids content is less than 50 % by weight, having a higher reactivity than the reactivity of milk or paste prepared using the optimum parameters described above.
The mixture according to the invention is a mixture which contains at least 0.07% by weight of amine (s) and / or glycol (s) relative to the weight of calcium hydroxide and / or magnesium, the amine and / or glycol making it possible to increase the reactivity of the mixture.

The amine and / or the glycol present in the mixture according to the invention are advantageously chosen from amino-alcohols, ethylene glycols and derivatives thereof.
Examples of amino alcohols are tertiary alkanolamines such as N-methyldiethanolamine, triethanolamine, N-ethyldiethanolamine, 2-dimethylamino ethanol,
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
dimethylamino-2 propanol 1, dimethylamino-3 propanol 1, dimethylamino-1 propanol-2, N-methyl N-ethyl-ethanolamine, diethylamino-2 ethanol, dimethylamino-3 butanol-1, dimethylamino-3 butanol-2, N-methyl Nisopropylethanolamine, N-methyl N-ethyl amino-3 propanol, dimethylamino-4 butanol-1, dimethylamino-4 butanol-2, dimethylamino-3 methyl-2 propanol-1, dimethylamino-1 methyl-2 propanol-2, dimethylamino-2 butanol-1, 2-dimethylamino-2-methyl propanol-1.
Among these, mention will be made in particular of methyldiethanolamine, triethanolamine, 2-dimethylamino ethanol, 3-dimethylamino propanol-1 and 1 diethylamino propanol-2.
Preferably, the mixture according to the invention contains an additive chosen from mono-, di- or tri-ethanolamine, mono-di- or tri-ethylene glycol, or mixtures of these.
The present invention also relates to a process for preparing a mixture of H2O, Ca (OH) 2 and / or Mg (OH) 2 with a content of solid particles of less than 50% by weight and having a very high reactivity.
According to the process according to the invention, CaO and / or MgO is reacted with water with a water / CaO and / or MgO weight ratio greater than 2, in the presence of at least 0.1% by weight amine and / or glycol relative to the weight of CaO and / or MgO. Using the process described above, a mixture of Ca (OH) 2 and / or Mg (OH) 2 is obtained, the particles of which have a specific surface greater than 30 m2 / g, preferably between 40 and 80 m2 / g.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
Advantageously, CaO and / or MgO are reacted with water in the presence of 0.1 to 2%, in particular 0.5 to 1% by weight of amine (s) and / or glycol (s).
The amines and glycols are advantageously the amines and glycols listed above in the present specification.
The reaction product CaO and / or MgO-H-, 0 is advantageously subjected to wet grinding.
In a particular embodiment, wet grinding is carried out at least during
EMI6.1
the CaO and / or MgO - H2O reaction. 2
Finally, the present invention also relates to - a process for the treatment of gases, such as acid gases, in which a mixture according to the invention is sprayed or injected into the gases to be treated, in particular a mixture obtained by the following process the invention;
- a process for treating waste, such as household waste, in which said waste is brought into contact with a mixture according to the invention, in particular with a mixture obtained by the process according to the invention, and - a treatment process of plants, in particular a process promoting plant growth, in which said plants are treated with a mixture

according to the invention, in particular with a mixture obtained by the process according to the invention.
Other particularities and details of the invention appear from the following detailed description in which mixtures according to the invention are described by way of examples only.
Lime milk was prepared by mixing 50 g of powdered quicklime with a particle size of less than 90 microns and a high reactivity (obtained by gentle calcination at 900 C in a rotary oven) with 600 g of hot water (temperature 80 C) containing x% by weight of an additive relative to the weight of CaO. The quicklime used had a purity of about 98%.
After a few minutes of reaction, the temperature of the mixture was close to 100 C.
The milk of lime thus formed was then filtered and the product thus recovered was dried at 70 ° C. and under vacuum.
In a variant of the process described above, the mixture was subjected, before the filtration and drying operations, to wet grinding. To carry out this grinding, a DYNO-MILL laboratory rotary grinder with a capacity of 1.4 l was used, the grinding bodies of which were spheres with a diameter between 0.125 and 0.8 mm and made of zirconium oxide. The speed of rotation of the mill was 3400 rpm while the grinding time was less than 1 minute.
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
By way of comparative example, a milk of lime was prepared, without the use of amine and / or glycol, as described above.
The specific surface area of the lime milk micelles after drying was measured by the BET method.
The table below shows the parameters and the results (specific surface) of the lime milks obtained by the processes described above.

in which x is the% by weight of additive relative to the weight of CaO
56 and 74 are the weight of one mole of CaO and

Ca (OH) 2
Thus when 0.5% by weight of an additive is used relative to the weight of CaO, the mixture contains approximately 0.35% by weight of said additive relative to the weight of Ca (OH) 2 'etc.
This table shows that the use of 0.5% and 1% of diethylene glycol and triethanolamine makes it possible, on the one hand, to increase the specific surface of the micelles of the mixture before grinding compared to the specific surface of the micelles of a mixture prepared by simple reaction of quicklime commercially with water, and on the other hand to increase the efficiency of wet grinding of the mixture.
Wet grinding of a mixture prepared by simple reaction of a commercial quicklime with water only allows an increase of approximately 10% of the specific surface, while wet grinding of a mixture obtained by reaction of quicklime in the presence of 0.5 and 1% of diethylene glycol and triethanolamine, with water allows an increase of about 45% of the specific surface.

Hydrated dolomite pastes were prepared by mixing 1 part by weight of finely ground decarbonated dolomite (particle size less than 90 rai) obtained by gentle calcination of dolomite at 9000C in a rotary oven and 2.5 parts by weight of water possibly containing an additive. Temperature
EMI10.1
initial mixture was 80 C (water temperature) and a temperature of 100 C was reached after a few minutes, so that the decarbonated dolomite was completely hydrated (Ca (OH) 2 - Mg (OH) 2).
After drying of the paste at a temperature of 70 ° C. and under vacuum, the specific surface area of particles forming the mixture was measured. the results of these measurements are given in the following table:

neutralization of water, industrial smoke, as a neutralizing agent, the production of dispersing agents, lubricants, calcium soaps, agent for surface treatment.
Given the high reactivity of the mixture according to the invention, in particular of the mixture obtained by the process according to the invention, the present invention also relates to a process for the treatment of acid gases for example to remove compounds such as HS therefrom, HCl, SO-in which the gases to be treated are brought into contact, for example by spraying, with said mixture a process for treating plants, for example to improve their growth, in which a mixture is applied or sprayed onto said plants according to invention a process for treating waste, household waste, in which said waste is brought into contact with a mixture according to the invention so as to very quickly absorb acid compounds and therefore so as to improve their destruction by fermentation.
It was noted that the mixtures according to the invention absorbed compounds such as SO2, CO2 and H2S much faster than conventional lime milks.
<Desc / Clms Page number 12>
It seems that the improvement in plant growth is due to a high rate of absorption of C02 and a calcium supply while the improvement in the fermentation of waste is due to the rapid absorption of HS, a poison for fermentation microorganisms.
