<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

"Scarifying device"
The present invention relates to a scarifying device comprising - a support frame, - a main shaft mounted on the frame so as to be able to be driven in rotation about its longitudinal axis, - support plates, fixedly mounted on the main shaft, parallel to one another and at a distance from each other, - at least one secondary shaft supported between two adjacent support plates, parallel to the main shaft, and - knives scarification supported on a secondary shaft in a plane perpendicular to the main shaft, each knife being provided with a through hole, through which the corresponding secondary shaft has passed in a manner allowing free pivoting of the knife around the secondary tree,
- as well as spacers which keep neighboring knives placed on the same secondary shaft at a mutual distance.
It has been known for a long time that it is important to aerate the soil of lawns and eliminate the entanglement of mosses and adventitious plants, to obtain a perfect lawn, not suffocated.
For this purpose, known scarification devices comprising a knife holder shaft, on which are directly mounted scarification knives. The shaft driven in rotation, a short distance from the ground, allows the knives to penetrate into it.
The knives are generally formed from perforated dishes perpendicular to their plane and threaded, then fixed on the knife-carrying shaft.
These devices have the drawback of replacing
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
complicated individual cementing of worn knives and the forces undergone by the knives are transmitted directly to the shaft itself, which entails risks of warping thereof.
Devices such as that described at the start are also known. Here the knives are mounted on small secondary shafts and they are easily replaceable. They pivot freely around these shafts and, when a hard obstacle is encountered, the risks of deformation of the device can be reduced.
However, these devices have the disadvantage of a high rate of wear. Indeed, the rotation of the perforated plates around the secondary shafts quickly causes ovalization of the perforated holes and / or wear by friction of the secondary shaft. Furthermore, the latter, only supported and retained by the support plates, is, in service, driven in rotation relative to these, which again allows wear of the secondary shaft or an ovalization of the holes made in the support plates for passing the secondary shafts. Frequent replacement not only of knives, but also of secondary trees is therefore essential.
The present invention aims to develop a scarification device which overcomes the wear problems described above, while providing increased insurance against the dangers of deformation of the parts of the device. Advantageously, the device will be simple to handle, of low cost, and it will allow individual replacement of the knives without problem.
To solve the problems posed, there is provided, according to the invention, a scarifying device of the type described at the beginning, which further comprises, for each knife, a support sleeve of wear-resistant material which is inserted in its through hole between the knife and the corresponding secondary shaft. According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the support sleeve has a first contact surface with the through hole of the knife and a second contact surface with the corresponding secondary shaft, the second contact surface being of one dimension greater than the first.
According to a particular form of the invention, the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
support bushing has at least at one of its ends a flange projecting towards the outside and having a diameter greater than the through hole.
According to a preferred form of the invention, each secondary shaft is mounted on the support plates so as to be integral with the latter in rotation.
According to a very advantageous form of the invention, at least one knife is a dish of small thickness, the through hole of which is. in contact with the corresponding secondary shaft over a length greater than the thickness of the plate.
Other details and particularities of the invention will emerge from the description given below, without implied limitation, and with reference to the attached drawings.
FIG. 1 represents an exploded perspective view of a scarification device according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows a front view of two knives mounted side by side.
Figure 3 shows a side view of a knife.
In the various drawings, identical or analogous elements are designated by the same references.
As is apparent from the example of embodiment illustrated in FIG. 1, the device here comprises a main shaft 1 which is commonly mounted on a support frame, not shown, for example on a motorized scarifier frame.
The shaft is mounted on this chassis so as to be rotated about its longitudinal axis 2. This shaft is provided with support plates 3 in the form of discs which are fixedly supported on the shaft 1 so as to be arranged parallel to each other and at a distance from each other. Each of these plates has perforations 4, in the example illustrated four in number. The perforations 4 of a support plate 3 are arranged coaxially to the perforations 4 of the neighboring support plate or plates.
Between the support plates, secondary shafts 5, of which only one is shown in FIG. 1, are supported parallel-
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
along the main shaft 1, by passing through said perforations 4 of two neighboring support plates. These secondary shafts carry scarification knives 6, only one of which is shown in FIG. 1. Several knives 6 are arranged one next to the other on each secondary shaft 5, being kept at a distance from each other. 'other. These knives 6 pivot freely around their secondary shaft 5.
As is apparent in particular from FIGS. 2 and 3, the knives of the device according to the illustrated invention are formed from a rectangular dish having a small thickness E and preferably a median longitudinal axis 7. The dish comprises a part of free end 8 which is used for scarifying and the plane of which is oriented in a plane substantially perpendicular to the axis 2 of the main shaft 1, a central part 9 twisted around the median longitudinal axis 7, for example about 90, and an end part 10, opposite to the previous one, which first of all extends substantially perpendicular to the plane of the end part 8, then rolls up on itself by forming a through hole II whose axis 12 is parallel to the main shaft 1.
This through hole 11 has a length L much greater than the thickness E of the dish.
There is provided according to the invention, for each knife, a support sleeve 13 of wear-resistant material, which is inserted in its through hole II. After this insertion, when the knives are threaded onto a secondary shaft 5, each sleeve 13 has a first contact surface with the through hole II in which it is inserted, and a second contact surface with the threaded secondary shaft 5. Preferably, this second contact surface is larger than that of the first, that is to say that the support sleeve 13 can protrude outside the through hole II. This arrangement allows better absorption of the stresses imposed on the knives during service.
The support sleeve 13 is made of any material which resists wear by friction of the knives and the secondary shaft. The latter are generally made of hard steel, specially treated for this purpose. We can for example use
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
for the support bushing certain resistant plastics such as Nylon, Ertalon, etc. It is obvious that these bushings cannot reduce the pivoting capacity of the knives around their shaft.
Advantageously, the support sockets 13 can have, at least at one of their ends, a flange 14 projecting outwards and having an external diameter greater than the diameter of the through hole 11. In this way, not only the sliding of the flange 14 in the through hole 11 is limited in one direction, but, as can be seen from FIG. 2, this flange 14 acts simultaneously as a spacer between its knife 6 and the neighboring knife.
Given the embodiment of the knife illustrated and the configuration of its through hole, when the support sleeve 13 is threaded into the latter, the contact surface obtained between the sleeve and the knife is far greater than that obtained between a axis and a plate drilled in the direction of its thickness. This advantageously results in an excellent distribution of the stresses imposed on the knives during service.
According to the invention, each secondary shaft 5 is connected to the support plates 3 so as not to be able to pivot or slide relative to them during their rotation. In the illustrated embodiment, provision has been made for this that each plate 3 has, opposite its perforations 4, sleeves 15 fixedly connected to the plate and provided with an axial bore 16 in alignment with the corresponding perforation 4. In each of the sleeves 15 is also provided a hole 17 made right through, transverse to the axis of the bore 16.
Correspondingly, the secondary shafts 5 have, at each of their ends, transverse bores 18 which, when a secondary shaft 5 is threaded into the perforations 4 of two support plates and into the corresponding sleeves 15, cooperate with the transverse holes 17 of these sleeves 15. It is then possible to introduce a fixing pin 19 into each passage thus formed and the secondary shaft 5 is then secured to the support plates during their rotation.
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
This arrangement makes it possible to avoid in a simple manner any wear relating to the locations of contact between the support plates and the secondary shafts, as in the prior art.
Tests were carried out with a device according to the invention on a motorized scarifier. After 2000 hours of service, it appeared that it was necessary to replace the knives because of their wear at their free end, that is to say that requested by the ground to be scarified. The replacement of the knives was therefore no longer imposed by wear of the end of the knife provided with a through hole. No wear of the latter and no wear of the secondary trees could be observed after this period; the support sockets did not ask to be replaced. Such results are impossible to achieve with the devices according to the known state of the art.
It should be understood that the present invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described above and that many modifications can be made thereto without departing from its scope.
One could for example consider knives formed from a non-twisted dish, welded to a metal sleeve whose cavity would form the through hole for the secondary shaft.
One could consider support plates of square or polygonal shape, instead of circular.
