<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>

<Desc/Clms Page number 10>

<Desc/Clms Page number 11>

The largest amount is purchased by the building materials industry. In the first place, a granulated blast furnace slag is used. Before granulating, the glowing slag is allowed to cool rapidly in water, producing a glassy product with latent hydraulic properties, the so-called blast furnace sand, which has excellent cement properties. The blast furnace sand is used in iron Portland cement up to a content of 35 gel%, or in blast furnace cement, which consists of 15-64 wt. % Portland cement clinker and 85-36 wt. % blast furnace sand with the addition of calcium sulfate.
While the preparation of the Portland cement clinker is associated with high raw material and energy consumption, the latter account for almost half of the total preparation cost of the Portland cement - by using blast furnace sand, natural raw material reserves can be saved and primary energy consumption can be significantly reduced.
These cements have even more advantages, namely less hydration heat development, so that the qualities mentioned are mainly used in the production of large-volume buildings, for example dams.
Due to a decreasing demand for cement and because of the quantitatively limited share of blast furnace sand in these cements, large quantities are still
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
blast furnace slag is dumped or used as a so-called blast furnace slag as road material.
In addition, in mining, for example, there is an urgent need for a binder that must meet the following criteria: it must not be expensive, because it is needed in large quantities. The cement qualities mentioned do not qualify in this respect because of their relatively high price due to the high content of Portland cement clinker. For use in mining, for example as backfilling material, the corresponding mortars or concrete do not have to have the strengths that reach, for example, blast furnace cement or iron Portland cement. Due to the use underground and for the manufacture of large volume structures, it is required that the heat of hydration be minimized, in order to save expensive measures of heat dissipation.
Owing to the partly long transport routes, it is further required that the corresponding mortars or concrete types have a delayed setting and hardening behavior, so that, if possible without easy use of chemical retardants, easy and safe workability is guaranteed.
Similar requirements are imposed on binders or mortars and concrete types prepared therefrom, which are used for binding harmful substances, in particular heavy ones
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Metal ion-loaded materials, soil and the like are used.
The object of the invention is therefore to propose a binder or a building material mixture containing the largest possible amount of blast furnace slag, without abandoning the characteristic characteristic of a blast furnace cement, for example.
EMI3.1
;. <¯. # ' material properties. Preferably, the binder or the building material mixture also contains other waste materials which should otherwise be dumped. Finally, the aim is to provide the cheapest possible binder to make new areas of application, especially in mining, accessible.
The invention provides for this purpose a binder based on a latent hydraulic blast furnace slag, a calcium sulphate carrier and an activator with a content of a substance which prevents the formation of the hydration products and / or the
EMI3.2
The heat of hydration of the binder made with water slows and / or lowers.
It is already known that there are materials which as constituents of a binder based on a latent hydraulic blast furnace slag cause a temporary delay in the formation of the hydration products and at the same time decrease the heat of hydration, and yet
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
give excellent values of both initial strength and final strength, which are fully adequate for most areas of application.
It has now surprisingly been found that a synthetically prepared calcium sulfate carrier is particularly suitable for this.
Synthetically prepared calcium sulphate products are often obtained as waste products in industrial processes, for example in flue gas desulfurization or in the neutralization of dilute acids.
In addition to the waste product blast furnace slag, the binder according to the invention also contains another waste product, for example the waste gypsum from a wet flue gas desulfurization (REA gypsum).
Such REA plaster is nowadays obtained in large quantities and for the most part even has to be poured. This waste gypsum often has to be deposited at special landfills, because it contains partly insignificant amounts of harmful ions, in particular heavy metal ions.
In a binder according to the invention, the sulfate ions and the harmful ions are bound in the different hydrate phases. The latter ions become solid in the
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
hydrate phases built in and thereby rendered as harmless as possible.
It has surprisingly been found that the combination of a latent hydraulic blast furnace slag with a synthetically prepared calcium sulphate carrier gives a delayed formation of hydrate phases, that is to say that the binder prepared with water or a building material mixture prepared therefrom remains longer processable. Tests have shown that ettring casting, the formation of the first hydrate phase, is reduced both in time and in quantity.
This also reduces the heat of hydration at the same time.
In addition, the ettringite crystals formed appear to differ from the conventional binder mixtures in their crystal form. This can apparently be explained by a synergistic interaction of the synthetically prepared calcium sulphate carrier with the hydraulic components of the blast furnace slag.
A particular problem in the preparation of known mortars
EMI5.1
types of concrete with a blast furnace slag content form the occurrence of "sanding" of the surface of buildings. The layer that sanded off is about 5 mm. The cause for the occurrence of this defect is in insufficient curing
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
seen from the surface layer. Scientifically, the insufficient curing was seen as a result of the internal water extraction caused by the great need for water in the formation of the ettringite phases during the hydration.
This problem completely disappears with mortars and concrete types prepared from a binder according to the invention, because - as mentioned earlier - the formation of the ettringite phases is reduced in quantity and in time. That is, the phenomenon of "water extraction" no longer occurs to the extent that it is in the prior art.
In addition, this problem is further reduced when a mortar or concrete based on a binder according to the invention is used, for example, for the construction of dams in the mining industry. Namely, the mortar lies largely against the rock, and is therefore hardly affected by carbon dioxide from the air, which would lead to a carbonation of the mortar and thus to a loss of strength. On the contrary, the mortar or concrete is kept moist by the rock water; completely moist mortar or concrete is even less carbonated by any carbon dioxide present.
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
A further advantage is that the hydration of a binder according to the invention proceeds at clearly lower pH values of about 11 and at a low calcium ion concentration. As a result, ettring casting still increases in strength during hydration. Furthermore, it has been found that it is precisely the ettringite crystals that make a decisive contribution to strength,
EMI7.1
. .. which is above that of comparable ones. conventional cements such as Portland cement. Due to the low pH value (approx. 11), the tolerance for the skin is also significantly improved, which is important for the user.
Tests have shown that the compressive strength of a building material according to the invention more than satisfies the requirements in the mining industry, depending on the hardening time. For this, reference is made to the attached example.
A glass-like solidified, granulated material (blast furnace sand) is preferably used as the blast furnace slag. With the
EMI 7.2
According to the invention, the term "activator" is intended to mean a substance which favors the formation of the hydrate phases or which initiates and promotes the hydraulic reaction.
This includes, for example, (ground) Portland cement clinker as well as lime or other alkaline substances, which increase the pH with respect to the said preferred range of the pH value of approximately 11. -
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
Preferably, a binder according to the invention is composed as follows, in which the sum of the individual components is always 100 g. % - blast furnace slag: 55-89, preferably 75-85 wt. % - synthetic calcium sulfate support:
10-40, preferably 13-23 wt. %
EMI8.1
1-5, preferably 1-2 wt. Accordingly, the binder according to the invention does not contain an activator: only an amount of the latent hydraulic blast furnace slag up to 89 wt. %, but exists in total up to 95, preferably up to 98 (99) wt. % from waste (including the synthetic calcium sulfate carrier) and only 1-5 wt. %, preferably 1-2 wt. % from normal Portland cement clinker or the like.
The binder according to the invention can therefore contribute considerably to the reduction of the abovementioned residues.
A building material mixture manufactured using the binder according to the invention preferably consists of 30-70 wt. % of the binder and 70-30 wt. % of a filler, which is preferably at least latently hydraulic, for example a fly ash, volcanic ash, electric filter ash and the like.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
It is of course possible to add substantially non-reactive additives, also with a coarser grain, to the building material mixture or also to the binder.
EMI9.1
. A building material mixture of 18-66.5 wt. % of the binder according to the invention, 18-66, 5, wt. % of the latent
EMI9.2
hydraulic. filler and 5-40 wt. almost "non-reactive adjuvant with a grain size of 2-10 mm has been proposed, the sum of the three components always being 100 wt. % must be. The latter group includes, for example, limestone, wax stone (rock obtained from mineral ore, in particular coal, without ore), slag (eg blast furnace slag or LD slag) and quartz sand. The use of a grain of such a size facilitates the transportability of the dry and / or water-based building material mixture. Preferably the water content is 25-35 wt. %, based on the amount of binder.
This amount of water is enough to get a good one
EMI9.3
.. achieve transportability and complete hydration.
Depending on the intended use and the requirements, the content of the synthetically prepared calcium sulphate carrier can also be partly replaced by a natural calcium sulphate carrier (in particular gypsum or anhydrite). However, the above-mentioned advantages are reduced accordingly. Even when replacing the artificially prepared
<Desc / Clms Page number 10>
calcium sulphate carrier by a corresponding natural product, although the advantages are further reduced, but the use of this binder or of the building material mixture underground or for the. harmful substances are still more advantageous than the use of conventional binders (building material mixtures).
In addition to the use underground as mortar or concrete for the load-bearing elements of stone galleries, large spaces, bunkers, blind shafts, for the floor mounting, the filling behind sheet-piling or the filling of hollow spaces, a binder according to the invention or a corresponding building material mixture also suitable for bonding materials that are polluted with pollutants, in particular heavy metal ions, soil or liquids. The harmful ions are bound firmly in the hydrate phases.
For example, solids and / or liquids containing aromatic or chlorinated hydrocarbons, salts and / or

"Nitrogen oxides are taxed, in this way likewise discharged as waste water from flue gas desulphurisation plants, which is then preferably used as kindling water, but also sewage sludge, industrial or domestic waste water, contaminated soil from industrial sites, rock mountains or flotation residues.
<Desc / Clms Page number 11>
In this way, with the exception of the extremely small amount of hydraulic activator, only residues or waste products are mixed together, and a stable mortar or concrete of high strength is obtained.

storage in water) after 24 hours 7 days 35 and 2 after 28 days more than 45 N / mm and thus without further ado. "
15N / mm2 ,. to the front. mining and rock mechanics required minimal compressive strength. The strength after a longer period (after more than a year) is still significantly higher. The heat of hydration, determined as heat of dissolution according to DIN 1164, after 7 days is less than 125 Joule / g.
