*0 00 INVENTION TITLE: LUMBERMILL The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me:- *01 2 FIELD OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to a lumbermill which comprises two band-drive wheels which are adjustable in relative distance by the use of slide means.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Band-saws are used in lumbermills to saw slabs, for example, into useable planks of timber. Up to the present, it has not been possible to alter the relative distance of the wheels from each other for the purpose of providing different cutting sizes or adjusting tensions in the band-saw.
The present invention provides a means of meeting these objectives to at least some extent.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION This invention provides a lumbermill, which comprises: a framework upon which are arranged two band-drive wheels connected by a band saw, at least one of the band-drive wheels being adjustable laterally by use of slide means mounted on the framework wherein said band-drive wheels, bandsaw, and slide means are rotatable with respect to said framework to facilitate cutting in selected planes.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS One embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a front elevation of the lumbermill according to the invention; MAW:HHF:#25962.RS1 22 October 1998 ~1C- 1 IC- Figure 2 is the same front elevation as in Figure 1 but with certain portions rotated through 900 in the plane of the paper for the purposes of exposition; Figure 3 is a left side elevatiun of the lumbermill; and Figure 4 is a plan view of the lumbermill according to Figure 1.

The band-saw blade is It is preferred that both band-saw wheels are adjustable-laterally towards and away from each other. The object is to adjust tension in the band-saw.
A slide means is preferably attached to a band-drive wheel so that the band-drive wheel may be altered in position with respect to a horizontal beam. Preferably the band-drive wheel is pivotally mounted on the slide means. Preferably both band-dri, wheels are mounted on respective slide means.
It is preferred that the band-drive wheels, band saw and slide means are rotatable with respect to the framework to facilitate cutting in selected planes.
The framework is conveniently a generally cage-like.structure of uprights and crosspieces joined generally at right angles.
The band-drive wheels are preferably of the type with a broad rim upon which the inside of the band-saw blade is mounted.
4 Turning to the accompanying drawings, numeral 10 relates to the lumbermill as a whole.
A framework 11 comprises an upper cross-piece 12 joining uprights 13 and 14; see Figure 1. A joining piece 15 is shown disposed horizontally about mid-way across the framework.
A beam 16 is connected to the outside face of the framework 11 as seen in Figure 1.
Two band-saw wheels 17 and 18 are mounted indirectly on beam 16, as will be explained later, and are connected by band-saw 19.
Band-saw wheel 17 rotates around axle 20. The camber of this wheel may be adjusted 0 o using adjustment means 21. Screwthreaded rod 22 is used to adjust the position of bandsaw wheel 17. The band-saw wheel 17 is mounted on a vertically disposed slide 23, having an upper portion 23A and a lower portion 23B. Thus screwthreaded rod 22 is rotatably connected to slide 23 to provide motion. Numeral 24 refers to a guide means l e for the band-saw 19. Upper portion 23A provides the sliding function in conjunction with beam 16 and lower portion 23B provides a support for guide means 24.
Numeral 25 indicates a motor pulley and 26 a bearing block. A belt 27 extends from I*, motor 25 to a pulley wheel 28 connected to band-saw wheel 18. Additional wheel tensioner 29 is attached to mounting 26. The assembly of beam 16, slides 23 and 231 and band-saw whieels 17 and 18 may be rotated in the plane of the paper around point X; isee Figure 2.
Turning to Figure 3, an upper joining piece 40 connects uprights 13 and 41, which in turn connect to lower joining piece 42. A mid-positioned side beam 43 connects uprights 13 and 41. A pulley 45 is indicated on motor 25 (not shown in this figure).
In Figure 4, upper cross-piece 12 joins to upper joining pieces 40 and 46, hich in turn join to rear-positioned upper cross-piece 45, forming a rectangle.
