The present invention relates to flask having a flowreducing nozzle and its use for spraying liquids, particularly viscous liquids.
Various liq.lids, depending on their use, are packaged in flasks and dispensed by means of a flow-reducing nozzle.
This allows the flow and the quantity of product distributed with each use to be limited. For example, liquids used for cleaning windows or dishes or gels for cleaning toilets can be mentioned. In fact, only relatively small quantities are used on each occasion. On the other hand, washing liquids or household cleaners employ significant quantities with each use, of the order of 50 ml and more.
The flow-reducing nozzle also allows direction of the spray of liquid in a more or less precise fashion towards the place one wishes to reach.
Generally, this spray is thread-like or cylindrical (diameter 2 to 5 mm) and is therefore accurate, but on the other hand it does not cover a large area.
In another domain, spray nozzles are known, in particular for insecticides or other plant protection products, allowing a dispersion in breadth from one spraying.
The sprayers used employ relatively high pressure, significantly greater than that which is obtained by squeezing the sides of a flask with the fingers and the palm of the hand; moreover, these nozzles contain several parts, the end part of which, through which the spray of liquid leaves, contains a fine aperture situated in the centre of a V-shaped elongated hollow. Finally these sprayers are only used for very fluid liquids having a fluidity comparable with that of water.
In the case of certain products such as a gel for sanitary ware such as, for example, WC's, it is necessary for virtually all of a surface such as the pan to be covered with the product.
It would therefore be useful to have available a flask 2 producing a spray which is no longer thread-like but fanshaped, allowing coverage of a large surface in one movement.
Such a nozzle should, moreover, be easy to produce, and economical, and due to this fact produced as a single item.
Finally, flexible tubes which can be squeezed are known from US-A-1,696,506 and 2,837,251, GB-A-759,829 and CH-A- 294,200 filled with very viscous products for example pastes or creams, such as mayonnaise, toothpaste or cosmetic creams, containing a nozzle allowing the spreading or forming into a particular shape of an expelled product which is not sprayed but is expelled slowly via the opening taking into A consideration its viscosity.
This is why a subject of the present Application is a flask provided with a flow-reducing nozzle suitable f containing a liquid with a low or average viscosity whi is to be sprayed onto a surface, characterized in that th flowreducing nozzle includes a tubular element the en of which is provided with a slit-shaped opening throu which the liquid is sprayed.
A more particular subject of the pres t Application is a flask provided with a flow-reducing no zle characterized in that the said flask contains a liquidwith a low or average viscosity which is to be sp ayed onto a surface, and in that the flow-reducing ozzle includes a tubular element the end of which i provided with a slit-shaped opening through which the 1 quid is sprayed.
By "nozzle" is mean the part of a flask arrane4e at the opening of the latter. This part can be integral with the flask, but genera y, and preferably, is a separate part, connected and ad ted to the flask opening.
By "flow educing" nozzle is meant that the apertuLt of the nozzl determining the flow rate of the liquid is smaller an that of the flask opening, the size determining the f ow rate generally being the passageway having the nar owest section.
Such a nozzle is preferably produced as a single part, Sfor example by moulding. It can be placed in the opening of a flask, for example by forcing in, such as other well-known f~PZ\ t 2/1 In one aspect, the present invention is directed to a flask containing a liquid and provided with a flow-reducing nozzle, said flask having at least one part which is sufficiently flexible so that on squeezing the flask the liquid is discharged through the flow-reducing nozzle characterised in that the liquid is of low to average viscosity comprised between 100 and 1000mPa.s, the flow-reducing nozzle includes a tubular element, the end of which is provided with a slit-shaped opening which extends over at least one side of the tubular element and in that the liquid is discharged in a substantially fan-shaped spread onto a surface.
By "nozzle" is meant the part of a flask arranged at the opening of the latter. This part can be integral with the flask, but generally, and preferably, is a separate part, connected and adapted to the flask opening.
By "flow-reducing" nozzle is meant that the aperture of the nozzle determining the flow rate of the liquid is smaller than that of the flask opening, the size determining the flow rate generally being the passageway having the narrowest section.
Such a nozzle is preferably produced as a single part, for example by moulding. It can be placed in the opening of a flask, for example by forcing in, such as other well-known oo e

S S 3 flow-reducing nozzles, after filling the flask, or it can be integral with the flask, the flask-nozzle assembly being produced by moulding.
The flask can be any appropriate flask containing at least one part which is sufficiently flexible to be squeezed by the use, s hand. Such flasks are well known and particularly suitable are those which usually contain gels for sanitary ware or cleaning products for dishes or floors.
These flasks, after being squeezed, almost immediately regain their original shape, and their base, situated on the opposite side to the nozzle, is preferably flat so that the flask stands up by itself. They are generally presented in the form of bottles and tubes are excluded from the notion of flask mentioned above.
These flasks or bottles can have for example a capacity of 150 ml, 200 ml, 1.5 litre, preferably 400 ml to 1 litre and more particularly about 750 ml.
While the nozzle of the present invention is particularly suitable for viscous liquids, which are virtually unusable with the most similar nozzles of the prior art, it is also suitable for more fluid liquids such as liquids having a fluidity similar to or greater than that of water, as well as for liquids of intermediate fluidity.
These liquids can contain organic or mineral compounds and quite particularly one or more compounds such as: detergents (up to perfume emulsifiers or solubilizers (up to perfumes (up to thickening products of any nature, mineral such as clays, silicas, or organic such as surfactants, polymers or vegetable such as starches (up to disinfectants (up to (organic or mineral) acids (up to colouring agents (up to 2%) preservatives (up to 2%) preferably in aqueous solution.
Their viscosity is low or average and can range preferably from 10 to 1000 mPa.s, in particular from 80 or .c 4 100 to 1000 mPa.s, and quite particularly from 100 to 800 mPa.s, measured with a Brookfield RVT viscometer, mobile 2, speed 50 rev/min.
The surface on which the liquid is sprayed can be of any type, but will generally and preferably be a hard surface, notably tiles, enamelled surfaces, melamined surfaces, synthetic resin surfaces, surfaces of washbasins, toilet pans, baths, bidets, urinals The surface concerned will generally be extensive, such as the surface of one of the sanitary items mentioned above.
The nozzle of the flask of the present invention is characterized by the presence of a tubular element, of whatever transversal section, for example approximately oval, square, rectangular, and preferably circular, containing the slit. This section will in general be regular, but other shapes such as conical, the slit being provided at the end of the cone, or, and preferably, conical and then tubular, are possible.
The end of the tubular element is provided with a slitshaped opening, which extends over at least one side of the tubular elemnent. The length of the element can vary slightly but will generally be from 5 to 25 mm, the maximum length being determined by the flexibility or rigidity required of the tubular element, as well as the possibilities for closing the flask.
The end of the tubular element can have any suitable shape such as that of an oblong parallelepiped, but is preferably hemispherical.
The slit will usually have a straight shape, seen from the front and preferably approximately in the lengthways axis of the tubular element and therefore of the flow of the liquid.
The length according to which the slit extends over the sides of the tubular element determines the width of spray of the liquid.
Preferred nozzles with which the flasks according to the invention are provided are characterized in the slit A extends over at least one side of the tubular element and 4/1 preferably at least over the sides of the tubular element.
In order to obtain certain particular effects, the end can contain several slits, preferably two slits, advantageously in the shape of a cross.
In another aspect, the present invention is directed to the above flask when used for the dispersion of a liquid, in particular with low or average viscosity, preferably a liquid for household maintenance or for sanitary ware such as a gel for sanitary ware as well as a flask as defined above characterized in that said flask contains a liquid with a low or average viscosity to be discharged in a substantially fan-shaped spread over a surface, which is a liquid for household maintenance or for sanitary ware.

The present invention will be better understood by reference to the drawings, in which: Figures 1 and 2 are sectional views of nozzles according to the invention seen from the front.
Figure 3 is a front view of the nozzle of Figure 1, rotated by 90° relative to Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of a flask 4 provided with a nozzle according to the invention, and partially filled with a liquid 5 of average viscosity, to be sprayed.
In Figure 1, the elements of a standard flow-reducing nozzle can be seen which is to be introduced into the 2 5 circular aperture of a flask as far as the level of the circular stop 1. The one-piece flow-reducing nozzle includes a tubular element 2 of complex shape which can be broken down into three parts: a lower conical part, through which the liquid arrives, ext6nded by a cylindrical part, itself followed by an approximately hemispherical part. It is within this hemispherical part that the novelty of the present invention resides: this part is slit vertically to the level of the adjacent cylindrical part. Here the slit 3 is straight and vertical and with parallel walls separated, for example, by about0.7 mm. The internal diameter of the hemispherical part is about 4 mm while the external diameter AL0 is about 6 mm a thickness of material, such as low t density polyethylene, of about 1 mm). The sides of the slit follow the hemispherical shape of the tubular element; if desired they could be sector shaped.
Discharge of the product in wide and regular bands forming a regular fan-shape is obtained by manual pressure on a flexible plastic flask filled with liquid, allowing, by movement of the hand in the arc of a circle, the rapid and regular coverage of a large surface.
Figure 2 is a similar figure to that of Figure 1, but the end part analogous with the hemispherical part above, has a cylindrical shape finished with a right angle. It also includes a slit 3 extending to the bottom of the intermediate cylindrical part, A regular fan-shaped spread can be obtained when the flask is filled with liquids with a viscosity from 100 to 1000 mPa.s.
In Figure 3 the straight-shaped slit 3, with parallel sides, is clearly seen, In Figure 4, a flask according to the invention provided with the flowreducing nozzle of Figure 1 is seen, .9.
