This invention relates to a slot machine which is to be started by inserting tokens or coins into a slot, and in which the object is to subsequently display, change and stop symbols at preset times.
With a conventional slot machine, up to three tokens or coins (hereinafter called "tokens") are individually inserted into a slot to subsequently rotate three drums displaying symbols. Stop buttons are then depressed to stop the rotation of the drums. Depending on the combinations of the stopped symbols, a predetermined number of tokens are dispensed as a prize (as disclosed in Japanese Utility Model Laid-Open Publication No. SHO 54-130590 and Japanese Utility Model Publication No. HEI 2-227).
While playing a game with this conventional slot machine using a lot of tokens, the player has no way of knowing the number of remaining tokens at hand, apart from frequently looking at the front tray, into which tokens dispensed as prizes are received. When the quantity of tokens collected in the front tray progressively increases, the player must be careful of tokens flowing over the front tray and this tends to distract the player's attention from the playing of the game.
Generally the tokens come in the form of either individual tokens or in packages. A player buys 50 units worth of tokens or a package of tokens for one thousand yen. The individual 50 unit tokens are counted while being :i discharged from a hopper, whereas the 50 unit packages are wrapped in paper So or plastic.
With the conventional slot machine, tokens can be inserted into the slot one by one quite easily. However, when the player uses a package of tokens, he/she must tear the package to take out the individual tokens and throw away the wrapper, which is a nuisance.
A further problem is that due to tearing the package to take out the individual tokens and then discarding the wrapper, an amusement parlor becomes dirty with a large number of wrappers, and it gives a bad impression.
So as to not let these wrappers give a bad impression, the floor must be swept frequently, so there is a problem that the parlor management cost increases.
An object of the invention is to provide a slot machine which is operated by inserting loose tokens or at least one package of tokens and in which the packages can be inserted into the lot without being unwrapped, thus the player does not need to dispose of the wrapping and the amusement parlor stays clean and tidy.
According to one aspect of the present invention tnere is provided a slot machine which is to be started by game media inserted and by receiving instructions for starting a game to change a plurali,j of symbols and stop them at preset times, comprising: a plurality of game media inserting slot able to receive at least two types of game media, respectively, said at least two types of game media S including individual game medial and a package of media worth a certain number of said individual game media; a game start switch for starting the game; g o 15 a plurality of identifying units each for identifying one of the types of said game media received by one of said game media inserting slots; a total value memory means for totalling and storing the value of the said game media identified by said identifying units; value selecting means having a medium collecting switch for S 20 selecting a value of said game media to be consumed for each game in e• 0 response to an operation of the collecting switch; and starter for activating said game start switch upon selection of the value of game media by said value selecting means; whereby to carry out the game according to the value selected by S 25 said value selecting means.

It will be convenient to further describe the invention by reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrates possible embodiments of the invention. Other embodiments of the invention are possible and consequently the particularity of the accompanying drawings is not to be understood as superseding the generality of the preceding description of the invention.

Preferred Embodiment of the Invention.
Figures 1 to 3 of the accompanying drawings show the first 20 embodiment of this invention.
A number of slot machines are installed concentrated into an island, and each machine comprises drums 1, a token collecting switch 2, a collected-token counter 3, a start handle 4, drum stop switches 5, a count display 6, a game-over switch 7, a front tray 9 with a hopper 8, a token inserting switch o:ool 14, and a token collecting slot In operation, when the token inserting switch 14 is activated after tokens purchased from a token dispenser have been put into the front tray 9 and the hopper 8, these tokens will be inserted into the slot machine while being automatically counted up, and the number of tokens inserted will be displayed on the count display 6.
When the token collecting switch 2 is depressed to play a game, the collected-token counter 3 will count up the collected tokens while the tokens inserted will be counted down by the number corresponding to the number of collected tokens. Assuming that the number of inserted tokens on display comes to or approaches 0, if there are tokens still remaining in the front tray 9, it is possible to continue playing subsequent games by activating the token collecting switch 14. 1. A slot machine which is to be started by game media inserted and by receiving instructions for starting a game to change a plurality of symbols and stop them at preset times, comprising: a plurality of game media inserting slots able to receive at least two types of game media, respectively, said at least two types of game media including individual game media and a package of media worth a certain number of said individual game media; a game start switch for starting the game; a plurality of identifying units each for identifying one of the types of S" said game media received by one of said game media inserting slots; a total value memory means for totalling and storing the value of 00o• the said game media identified by sa:d identifying units; l0 i S• value selecting mvans having a medium collecting switch for selecting a value of said game media to be consumed for each game in response to an operation of the collecting switch; and a starter for activating said game start switch upon selection of the S value of game media by said value selecting means; whereby to carry out the game according to the value selected by said value selecting means.

A slot machine which is to be started by game media inserted into .0 at least one slot and a game start switch to turn and change a plurality of symbols and stop the symbols at preset times when a stop switch is switched on, wherein the game media include at least two kinds of game media such as individual game media and a package of game media worth a certain number of individual game media, and the at least one slot being able to receive the at least two kinds of game media, said slot machine comprising: identifying units for identifying the inserted game media; a total number memory for totalling and storing the number of the game media identified by said identifying units; game media collecting switches; game media number determining means for determining the number of game media to be collected for each game when said game media collecting switches are switched on; a collect game media display for displaying the number of game media to be collected for each game according to the determination of said game media number determining means; subtracting means for subtracting the number of game media to be collected for each game from the number of inserted game media; a starter for activating said game start switch after the game media o are identified by said identifying units and also after the number of game media to be collected for each game is determined by said game media number determining means; "result checking means for checking whether or not various S• combinations of stopped symbols are any of predetermined prize winning combinations; a result memory for storing the number of game media to be dispensed as a prize depending on the result of said result checking means; prize selecting means for selecting the number of game media to be dispensed as a prize according to the prize winning combinations checked by said result checking means and stored in said result memory; a result display for displaying the number of game media to be dispensed as the prize selected said prize selecting means; an adding device for adding the number of game media to be S. dispensed as the prize to the number of inserted game media stored in said total number memory; and a remaining game media display for displaying the number of the game media stored in said total number memory, the number of the game media subtracted by said subtracting means, and the number of the game media added by said adding device. 1

A slot machine according to claim 2, further including a calculating switch for returning refundable unused game media and prize dispensing means adapted to give game media as a prize according to the number of any S. 0e S 55 C C 0* a e.g. *g *5 C S S Cg g e.g C. 4* 9 g egg, S S C. 9g C S g.e. 86 g S g. Se S C 0 S. 16 remaining game media stored in said total number memory when said calculating switch is switched on.
4. A slot machine according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the game media are individual game media which are to be inserted into the slot one by one, or a package of game media worth a plurality of the individual game media.
A slot machine according to claim 4, wherein the package of game media includes individual game media wrapped in a package with bar codes or a magnetically recorded portion as an identification code.

A slot machine according to any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the .individual game media is a token or a coin, and the package of game media has tokens or coins different from the individual tokens or coins. s.
