Abstract
A safety waterproof boot (10) of molded plastics material is provided having an integral sole (12) and upper, the upper including a toe portion (16) and a metatarsal portion (17), a metallic plate (18) provided in the sole portion (12) and extending the width and length thereof and allowing for longitudinal flexing of the sole (12), a box-shaped rigid toe guard (22) provided in the toe portion (16), a rigid arched metatarsal guard member (20) extending laterally and having side portions (30) connected to the sole plate (18), the trailing edge (22a) of the toe guard (22) being spaced inwardly relative to the leading edge (20a) of the metatarsal guard (20) and the molded plastics material extending between the metatarsal guard (20) and the toe guard (22) having a flexible hinge portion (32) in the form of a reverse fold such that the trailing edge (22a) of the toe guard (22) will pivot inwardly of the leading edge (20a) of the metatarsal guard (20) when the toe portion (16) of the boot (10) is being pivoted relative to the boot.
