LOCKCED BAG NO. 5, HIAWTHIORN, VICTORIA 3122, AUSTRALIA Complete SpeCIiication for the invention entitled: "IM4PROVEMENTS RELATING TO DEMOUNTABLT.E PARTITIONS"' The following statement is a full description of this Invention, Including the bost method of performing it knownh to US 2 IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO DEMOUNTABLE PARTITIONS The present invention relates to a demountable partition particularly for office space.
It is desirable In modern office space to Install partitioning which is relatively easy to install and dismantle and then rebuild with minimal damage lo the partitioning and with a minimum of skilled labour.
Currently most partitioning utilises plasterboard or the like which Is relatively cheap but is difficult to work without causing some surface damage. particularly at the edges. Furthermore, plasterboard partitioning is difficult to dismantle without causing at 1 0 least superficial damage to the partitioning.
oft' Currently partitioning advantagously includes flush fittings with a minimum of jointing tapes and exposed studs. Furthermore, it is necessary to provide easy access for servicing space for power, communications and computer cables either horizontally or :0 vertically in the partitioning cavities.
S It is advantageous for the surface finish to take various forms such as painted surfaces, laminated vinyl fabric, timber veneer etc. and to provide full size or partial partitioning that may accommodate accoustic materials if necessary.
The present Invention has as an objective the provision of a demountable 0 partitioning comprised of an open framework including at least one cross member extending between upright studs on the framework, said cross member(s) Including an upwardly extending web member with a free edge positioned to extend substantially parallel to the cross member(s) when In use, said frame being releasably secured in a space to be partitioned, said. frame receiving a panel releasably attached to said web member wherein said panel and said web member are interconnected by hook means on the panel to releasably secure said panel over the framework, said hook means Includlng a portion tapeled towards the back of the panel to achieve a jamming effect upon said securement.
Conveniently the open framework Is of predetermined size anid area such that the framework may constitute one of several modules going to make up the framework of the -3crosS partitioning conveniently the module has threeAhnricntal members extending there across to provide the necessary support for engaging panels.
Conveniently the module may be modified by cross rendering theAher'aGna! members telescopic in construction such that the module may fit into a space narrower than the module width.
Conveniently the gap between each module framework may include a shelf bracket to accommodate a shelf bracket support between the module framework.
The invention will be described in greater detail with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a typical open framework So according to the invention, Figure 2 is a perspective view of a panel construction for securement to the frame and Figure 3 is a plan view of an assembled frame and panel construction together with shelf bracket support member.
With reference to Figure 1 the open framework includes a box frame construction of hannel members ii and rOSS A 1) s armrwAtasmet-iif-am rwtzp 12 connected to intermediate hoeriEntoe members 1 3with the free webs of the channel members 13a and 14a upstanding. In operation the framework is mounted in a proposed location for partitioning. The framework may be of full ceiling height or half ceiling height or may be relatively narrow to provide a headway beneath the ceiling and above a doorway.
In each instance the width of the framework is of a standard size such that the framework constitutes a module in the construction of the partitioning. Each module can be easily connected together such as by simple bolting means whilst the framework may be located on the floor of the building by utilisation of adjustment bolts which are adapted to penetrate the carpet or flooring material and make direct contact with the base material of the floor which is usually concrete. Thus the framework is positively located by such means but is easily released by release of the Lolt attachments.
With reference to Figure 2 a typical cladding construction has the same width as the framework module with YLP-I i II_ 4 recessed edges and a fixing bracket 16 extending predominantly along the width of the panel. The bracket includes a flat portion for attachment such as by bolting or adhesion to the back of the panel 15 and includes an outwardly extending flange member 17 which is adapted to hook over the upstanding web members 13a and 14a of the framework module. The flange 17 is tapered inwardly towards the back of the panel to achieve a jamming effect when installed on the upstanding web of the horizontal members 14 and 14. The back of the panel, at least at the edge portions, may include a seal member 18 extending along the 0oo° panel and this is adapted to compress upon installation of oooe°a the panel on the module to ensure a neat and tight fit.
Sao During installation of the framework modules 10 a o 15 shelf support bracket 19 is sandwiched between the framework O 10. The bracket 19 includes captive recesses 20 adapted to receive sliding relationship shelving brackets inserted at the foot of the framework and may be slid along the recess to a desired position for fixing. The edge of the panel 15 may be recessed to accommodate the width of the recess in order to provide a flush fitting at the joints of the partitioning.
The module may be constructed to incorporate 0° telescopic horizontal members 12, 13 and 14 so that the width of the module may be varied in special circumstances to fit a given space. The panel construction may be of medium to high density fibreboard which is relatively strong o and light and yet is easy to work on various woodworking c t machinery.
It would be appreciated that the partitioning of the present invention is simple to install and lends itself to easy dismantling without damage to the components and then reinstallation in a different location. In a standard framework module the horizontal bars would be positioned at 600mm centres to accommodate similarly spaced brackets on the back of the panel.
The location of the horizontalAggframewrk members 13 and 14 provides ideal conduiting for the power cables, i i
I
5 computer cables and communication cables each conduiting providing a separate run for such cables. Simple drilling of holes in the upright members 11 or in the horizontal members 12, 13 and 14 provides horizontal or vertical access Sfor the cable runs.
