(54)Titte: PROCESS FOR DIRECTING THE FLOW OF VISITORS (54) Bezeichnung: VERFAHREN ZUR LENKUNG VON BESUCHERSTROMEN (57) Abstract In a process for directing the flow of visitors, people may move 'It, 11 along a passage in one direction only. The passage (I1) comprises at least one door the motor-driven leaves of which can be set in motion by means of sensors 9, arranged in the passage The leaves are es- f~ sentially held in a position which keeps the passage open and close the passage only when someone approaches the door in the direction coun- ter to the authiorized direction along the passage. An alarm system may emit optical or acoustical signals before the door closes. 4i -2 PROCESS FOR DIRECTING THE FLOW OF VISITORS The invention relates to a method of directing the flow of people by which the people may only pass through a through-way in one direction, and the through-way has at least one door whose motor-driven door leaf is movable through the influence of sensors arranged at the throughway, e.g. by means of at least one light barrier.
Through-way installations intended for people are already known. These through-way installations have a through-way which is formed with a rail arranged on either side and is closed by a door whose door leaf is movable by means of a motor, the door only opening automatically if the directional beam of at least one light barrier arranged 0 at the through-way is interrupted by a person passing through the through-way. The door then automatically closes the through-way again after the passage of a short period of time. This construction which is known per se 0 nevertheless has a particular disadvantage which becomes apparent in the fact that children can be hit on the head by the automatically-moving door leaf.
A further disadvantage can be seen in the fact that jams can arise when a relatively large crowd of people are in the area of the door, since the door leaf can have a tendency to carry out uncontrollable swinging movements because of the different signals being issued by the light barrier in such an instance.
0: -The invention sets out to develop a method of the type in question, which avoids the above-mentioned disadvantages.
According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided a method of directing the flow of people, whereby the people may only pass through a through-way in one direction, and the through-way has at least one door with a motor-driven door leaf which is movable under the influence of signals generated by sensors S:21270A -3 arranged at the through-way; wherein the door leaf is maintained in an open position in the through-way and at least some of the sensors react to the direction of movement of a person approaching the through-way in the direction counter to said one direction, first to bring about a warning signal and, immediately or subsequently, to bring about closure of the door by means of the door leaf.
Preferably the sensors are arranged at spaced distances from the door, and the closure of the door by means of the door leaf is brought about under the influence of the sensor nearest the door.
According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided apparatus for allowing a flow of persons in one direction only through a through-way, the through-way comprising a door, means to maintain said door in an open position to allow flow of persons through said through-way in one flow direction, a motor for moving said door to close said through-way, warning means, and sensor 0 means for detecting movement of a person downstream of said ""through-way in a direction opposite to said one flow direction, the arrangement being such that when said sensor Si means detect movement of a person downstream of the g through-way in a direction oppositeto said one flow direction the warning means are actuated and, immediately or subsequently, said motor is actuated to close said door.
Preferably said sensor means comprise a plurality of sensors for detecting movement of a person in said opposite flow direction at different positions downstream 30 of said through-way, and one of said sensors is for detecting movement of said person at a position nearest said through-way and actuating said motor to move said door to close.
The advantage of the invention lies in the fact that the door leaf of the door does not project into the S:21270A It -4- L. 0 0" 0e 0 I through-way, so the through-way is opened completely. If someone passes through the through-way in the permitted direction, it is as though there were no door present at all. As a result of this children are not at danger from the door leaf, and jams which could be caused by the door leaf cannot occur. Only a person who wants to pass through the through-way against the permitted direction brings about, at the least, the emission of a warning signal, in the most extreme cases, however, he is prevented by means of the closing door-leaf, from continuing in the wrong direction.
The invention is explained in more detail with the drawing which shows a through-way equipped with a swing door.
The through-way 1 has a rail 2 on both sides. On one of the side rails 2 there is a door 4 whose door leaf is, preferably electromotively, movable in a known manner.
It is also possible to have two such doors 4, these being arranged as mirror images of one another and one on each of the rails 2. The arrow in the drawing points in the permitted direction of passage. In the example the door leaf 5 points against the direction of the arrow; the through-way 1 is open. On each of two pairs of posts 3 there is a light barrier 7, Sensors are arranged along one of the two rails 2, in this embodiment an ultrasonic transmitter 8 and two subsequent ultrasonic receivers 9, The electric control-mechanism 6 of the door drivemechanism, the light barriers 7, the ultrasonic transmitter 8 and the two ultrasonic receivers 9, 9' are connected to a control unit which has evaluation logic 11 and utilises the electrical impulses arriving from the ultrasonic receivers 9, 9' and the light barriers 7, 7' The function of the ultrasonic receivers 9, 9' is to check the beams being issued from the ultrasonic transmitter 8 for their present frequency when a person moves in the receiving range 10 or 10'; whilst the light barriers 7, 7' S:21270A merely register the presence of a person. The evaluation logic 11 is programmed in such a manner that it does not give off any impulse to a warning device which is not shown in more detail (flashing light, hooter or the like) or to the electric control-mechanism 6 for the drive unit of the door 4, but only releases impulses when a person moves towards the door 4 against the permitted direction of passage. If this is the case then the evaluation logic 11 can be connected in such a manner that a person who is located in the receiving range 10 of the first ultrasonic receiver 9 and crosses the directional beam of the first light barrier 7 is warned against proceeding by means of a warning signal from the warning device. If the person nevertheless continues and finds himself in the receiving 6 15 range 10' of the second ultrasonic receiver 9' and crosses the directional beam of the second light barrier 71, the r last light barrier before the door 4, the evaluation logic can be programmed in such a way that the door leaf (indicated by a dot-dash line) closes the through-way 1.
i 20 The warning device can continue to emit optical or audible signals during closure.
To provide sufficient advance warning, it is perfectly possible to provide, for example, three ultrasonic receivers and three light barriers or even two ultrasonic transmitters. The perscn skilled in the art can determine which arrangement is finally used in the respective instance of application, the latter also having to adapt itself to local conditions.
