Abstract

The invention relates to an insulation for insulating components (2, 15) having curved outer surfaces (6) which are closed about at least one component axis. Said insulation comprises a jacket (1) made of wire and long-fibre insulating material (9) arranged therein, whereby the partial surface of the jacket (1) facing the component (2, 15) forms the inner liner (5) and the partial surface of the jacket (1) facing outwards forms the outer liner (4). The inner liner (5) at least in certain areas can be placed against the outer surface (6) of the component (2, 15). When assembled the jacket (1) extends across the entire circumferential surface of the closed outer surface (6) and the inner liner (5) and the outer liner (4) are preferably each configured as a single piece. Jackets (1) with insulating material (9) which enclose components (2, 15) have good thermal and acoustic insulation properties and, using modern manufacturing methods for textile materials, can be configured for differently shaped components (2, 15). In case of complicated components (2, 15), especially components having outlets or whose cross sections increase and decrease in a particular direction, insulation elements having at least one longitudinal gap (18) are used so that said insulation can easily be fitted on the component (2, 15).
