INVENTION TITLE: "Personalised Gift Product"
DETAILS OF ASSOCIATED PROVISIONAL APPLICATION NO'S:
Australian Provisional Patent Application Number 2021901024 filed on 8 April 2021
The following Statement is a full description of this invention including the best method of performing it known to us:
TITLE
"Personalised Gift Product"
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a Personalised Gift Product.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Greetings cards are commonly purchased to accompany a gift for a special occasion.
[0003] Greetings cards are typically used to convey a personal message to the recipient of the gift and can also be used to identify the recipient and the gifter, for example where there are a large number of present under a Christmas tree.
[0004] A problem with greetings cards is both the cost, and the associated resources required to produce.
[0005] Annually sales of greetings cards in Australia can exceed 500M, and with an estimated carbon dioxide emission of 140g per card, the annual emissions of greetings cards in Australia alone equates to approximately 78,000 cars.
[0006] E-cards offer one solution to reduce the emissions by avoiding the requirement for paper, but e-cards are commonly sent by email or other digital messaging platform.
[0007] While e-cards may be suitable for sending separately without a gift, they cannot be linked to the gift and do not offer a significant degree of personalisation.
[0008] E-cards are also typically entirely web-based, and are unable to provide significant information regarding the users, with the information being restricted to that which a user opts to provide.
[0009] The present invention attempts to overcome at least in part the aforementioned disadvantages of previous greetings cards, electronic or physical, by providing a gift product which enables a personalised message to be associated with a gift.

[0031] Referring to Figure 1, there is shown a method according to an embodiment of the invention of applying a personalised message 30 to a gift 50 using a gift product and an online application 20, wherein the gift product 10 may comprise a dynamic QR code 12, wherein the online application 20 may be configured to; enable a user to create and save the personalised message 30 to a dedicated URL 40, and to link the dynamic QR code 12 to the dedicated URL 40; and wherein the method may comprise all of the following steps:
a. creating the personalised message 30 using the online application 20,
b. saving the personalised message 30 to the dedicated URL 40, c. linking the dynamic QR code 12 of the gift product 10 to the dedicated URL 40, d. applying the gift product 10 to the gift 50.
[0032] It is recognised that the step described at d. may occur at any step of the method, and is not necessarily the final step.
[0033] Dynamic QR codes 12 are preferred in the case of the present invention, as the dynamic QR code 12 can provide data when scanned, allowing a producer to see, for example, locations of where the gift products 10 are being purchased, how often they are being used, the devices they are being used with, and the date and time the dynamic QR codes 12 have been scanned. This enables producers to better aim marketing and stocking at the most beneficial locations.
[0034] The application 20 may be configured to operate using a camera enabled device 22, and to use the camera to scan the dynamic QR code 12 to link the dynamic QR code 12 to the URL.
[0035] The application 20 may be configured to create the personalised message 30 using the microphone and / or camera on a camera enabled device 22.
[0036] The camera enabled device 22 may be a smart phone.
[0037] The camera enabled device 22 may be a computer.
[0038] The personalised message 30 maybe a video message.
[0039] In use, a user of a gift product 10 according to the present invention may be directed to the online application 20.
[0040] The user may be directed to the online application 20 by the website address being printed on packaging of the gift product 10.
[0041] The user may be directed to the online application 20 by a third party application, for example an online provider of gifts.
[0042] The user may be directed to the online application 20 by a static QR code on packaging of the gift product 10.
[0043] The user may be directed to the online application 20 by the dynamic QR code 12, wherein the application 20 is configured to re-direct a user to the application in the case where no personalised message 30 has been saved.
[0044] The user may then use the online application 20 to create the personalised message 30.
[0045] The message 30 may be created using an interface provided on the application 20.
[0046] The interface may enable to the user to record video and audio using functionality of a camera enabled device.
[0047] The application 20 may comprise functionality to further edit the message 30, for example but not limited to; filters, clip art, music and drawing on to the message 30.
[0048] The application 20 may further comprise functionality to include augmented reality, wherein the dynamic QR code 12 is used by the camera to spatially identify the gift, and the message 30 may be configured to appear associated with the gift product 10.
[0049] Referring to Figures 2 and 3 there is provided a gift product 10 comprising a dynamic QR code 12, wherein an online application 20 is configured to enable the user to create and save a personalised message 30 to a dedicated URL 40, and wherein the application 20 is configured to link the dynamic QR code 12 to the dedicated URL 40, so that when the dynamic QR code 12 is scanned after a personalised message 30 has been saved, the personalised message 30 is displayed.
[0050] The gift product 10 may display an image 14 comprising a decorative portion 16 and the dynamic QR code 12.
[0051] The gift product 10 may be provided in a pack 18, wherein, in the pack 18, each decorative portion 16 is identical, and each dynamic QR code 12 is different.
[0052] The gift product 10 may be selected from a group consisting of; sticker, gift card, tag, bag, note and envelope.
[0053] The online application 20 may be configured to open as an interface on a user's device 22, without the need to direct a user to a web page, or to download a separate app before using the online application 20.
[0054] The online application 20 may be configured to optionally link multiple dynamic QR codes 12 to the same dedicated URL 40.
[0055] The image 14 may be created using the following method steps:
a. defining the decorative portion 16,
b. defining a location for the dynamic QR code 12, wherein the location is associated with the decorative portion 16,
c. using a QR code generator to generate the dynamic QR code 12,
d. combining the decorative portion 16 with the dynamic QR code 12 to form the image 14,
e. printing the image 14 onto the gift product 10 in a single pass
[0056] The method allows the image 14 to be printed on to the gift product 10 in a single operation, and is able to be automated.
[0057] The printing of multiple products bearing different dynamic QR codes 12 is precluded by conventional offset printing methods, and as such large volumes of products are difficult to manufacture.
[0058] The above method enables the manufacture of large volumes of gift products according to the present invention.
[0059] Referring to Figures 3a and 3b, there is shown a gift product 10 according to a preferred embodiment, in which the gift product 10 is a sheet of wrapping paper 10.
[0060] The dynamic QR code 12 may be displayed on the wrapping paper 10 in multiple locations.
[0061] The wrapping paper 10 may comprise a decorative portion 16 and the dynamic QR code 12.
[0062] The sheet of wrapping paper 10 may comprise a plurality of sections, wherein each section comprises different dynamic QR codes 12.
[0063] A reverse side of the wrapping paper 10 may display markings to identify different sections.
[0064] Each of the different sections may comprise a different decorative portion 16.
[0065] Markings assist a user with identifying the different sections, so that different, dynamic QR codes 12 are not applied to a single gift.
[0066] Further markings may be displayed in the form of a grid, to assist a user with cutting the paper evenly.
[0067] Each dynamic QR code 12 may be replicated on a reverse side to further assist a user with identifying which section of the wrapping paper 10 is being used.
[0068] Each section may be between 0.5m and 1.5m long.
[0069] Each section maybe between 0.9m and 1.1m long.
[0070] Each section may be between 0.4m and 1.Om wide
[0071] Each section maybe between 0.6m and 0.8m wide.
[0072] A gift product 10 according to such an embodiment of the invention may therefore be suitable for wrapping multiple gifts 50 and enable the provision of personalised messages 30 for each gift 50.
[0073] By having multiple different decorative portions 16 provided on a single product 10, a user who may be an infrequent purchaser of wrapping paper does not need to purchase and store multiple rolls of different designs of paper and does not need to purchase cards individually for each occasion.
[0074] In such embodiments, the gift products 10 may be sold in a pack comprising multiple gift products 10, each bearing different dynamic QR code 12.
[0075] In some embodiments, the user is able to create the personalised message 30 in the application 20 without purchasing a gift product 10 or scanning a dynamic QR code 12.
[0076] Such an embodiment enables the gift 50 to be purchased and delivered remotely with no contact from the gifter.
[0077] The dynamic QR code 12 may be linked to the URL 40 and may be printed on to the gift product 10 separately.
[0078] Printing the dynamic QR code 12 on to the gift product 10 separately allows the dynamic QR code 12 to be printed by another party, for example a seller of gifts 50.
[0079] Such an embodiment is useful where a gifter wants to purchase and send a gift remotely, and it therefore able to add a personalised message 30 despite having no contact with the gift 50 or gift product 10.
[0080] One example of such an embodiment is the purchase of flowers, where the gifter may purchase the flowers online, and may be directed to the application 20 during the purchase process.
[0081] The personalised message 30 may be created and saved, and the provider of the gift 50 then applies a gift product 10 bearing the label 12 before delivery.
[0082] Currently options for personalisation of gifts 50, especially those purchased remotely, are limited to what the provider is able to offer, which may be, for example, a short sentence on a card to accompany the gift 50.
[0083] Such limited options can make the gift 50 seem impersonal, and the present invention enables a gift recipient to view a personalised message 30 after scanning the dynamic QR code 12 on the product, despite the gifter having purchased the gift 50 remotely.
[0084] The single gift product 10 according to the present invention is able to substitute multiple conventional gift products, thereby saving resources and cost to the consumer.
[0085] The gift product 10, and method of personalising thereof, which enables greater personalisation than comparable conventional options.
[0086] Modifications and variations as would be apparent to a skilled addressee are deemed to be within the scope of the present invention.
