SHORE-BASED OSCILLATING WATER COLUMN WAVE ENERGY POWER GENERATION DEVICE INTEGRATED WITH PERMEABLE WAVE ELIMINATION STRUCTURE RELATED APPLICATION
[0001] This application is related to Chinese Patent Application No. 202110291221.9 filed on 18 March 2021 in the name of Dalian University of Technology, the entire content of which is
incorporated by reference as if fully set forth herein.
TECHNICAL FIELD
[0002] The present disclosure relates to the technical field of wave energy power generation devices, and in particular, to a shore-based oscillating water column wave energy power
generation device integrated with a permeable wave elimination structure.
BACKGROUND
[0003] Nowadays, energy demand continuously increases, while fossil energy reserves are limited. The whole world is facing the crisis of energy shortage, and the use of fossil energy will
lead to serious environment and climate problems. Developing renewable energy is the best
choice to solve the above problems. Wave energy, serving as marine renewable energy, has the
characteristic of inexhaustibility. An oscillating water column type wave energy power
generation device has the advantages of reliable performance and simple structure, and is the
most widely used wave energy power generation technology at present.
[0004] The main body structure of the oscillating water column type wave energy power generation device is a semi-submerged air chamber with an underwater opening. The upper part
of the air chamber is connected to a turbine power generation system through an airflow
pipeline. Under the action of waves, water columns in the air chamber oscillate up and down to
force the air in the air chamber to produce reciprocating airflow in the airflow pipeline. The
airflow drives an air turbine mounted in the airflow pipeline to rotate, and the air turbine further
drives the power generator to work, so as to realize the conversion from wave energy to electric
energy.
[0005] In actual marine environment, due to poor transmission capacity of short-period waves, the short-period waves may produce great reflection to produce a great wave load when
interacting with the wave energy power generation device, while the water columns in the air
chamber will produce sloshing motion, which leads to the low energy conversion efficiency of
the device on one hand, and threatens the structural safety of the device on the other hand.
Previously, in actual engineering and sea trials, different types of wave energy devices in
different countries have had safety accidents, resulting in huge losses. A permeable structure has
a good wave elimination effect, so it is widely applied to a marine engineering structure which
needs wave elimination.
[0006] Therefore, in order to protect a wave energy power generation device, it is an urgent problem for those skilled in the art to provide a shore-based oscillating water column wave
energy power generation device integrated with a permeable wave elimination structure.
[0007] A need exists to provide a shore-based oscillating water column wave energy power generation device integrated with a permeable wave elimination structure, so as to solve or at
least ameliorate one or more of the problems in the prior art, which can effectively reduce a
wave load produced by the action of short-period waves, and has little influence on long-period
waves with high power generation efficiency and stability.
SUMMARY
[0008] According to one aspect, the present disclosure provides a shore-based oscillating water column wave energy power generation device integrated with a permeable wave elimination
structure, including a square ring cylinder, a square cover plate, a turbine power generation
system, an airflow pipeline, an air chamber, and a permeable plate.
[0009] The air chamber is a cavity consisting of the square ring cylinder and the square cover plate. The square ring cylinder is a hollow square cylinder with openings in top end and bottom
end. The back surface of the square ring cylinder is fixed to a breakwater or a bank. The
permeable plate is arranged on the front surface, facing waves, of the square ring cylinder. The
square cover plate is arranged at the top of the square ring cylinder. The airflow pipeline is
arranged on the square cover plate. The turbine power generation system is arranged in the airflow pipeline. The turbine power generation system consists of an air turbine and a power generator. The air turbine is connected to the power generator.
[0010] In some embodiments, the airflow pipeline is arranged at the central position of the square cover plate.
[0011] In some embodiments, a plurality of square permeable holes are distributed in the permeable plate. In some embodiments, the permeable plate is fixed to the square ring cylinder
through high-strength bolts.
[0012] In some embodiments, the square ring cylinder, the square cover plate, and the airflow pipeline are made of a high-strength light-weight material. In some embodiments, the joints are
anchored by high-strength stainless steel bolts.
[0013] The shore-based oscillating water column wave energy power generation device integrated with a permeable wave elimination structure provided by the present disclosure
generates electricity by using wave energy by combining an oscillating water column type wave
energy power generation device and the breakwater or the bank, which reduces the construction
cost of the breakwater. The short-period waves are absorbed by using the permeable plate, which
can effectively reduce the wave load on the device, and improve the survival capability of the
device, thereby reducing the maintenance cost of the wave energy power generation device. A
fixed structure can ensure the stability of the device and improve the power generation
efficiency. The wave energy power generation device can be arranged along the breakwater or
the bank, which improves the wave energy utilization rate, and meanwhile, gives consideration
to the function of marine engineering protection facilities.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0019] The technical solutions in the embodiments of the present disclosure will be clearly and completely described herein below with reference to the accompanying drawings in the
embodiments of the present disclosure. Apparently, the described embodiments are merely part
rather than all of the embodiments of the present disclosure. On the basis of the embodiments of
the present disclosure, all other embodiments obtained by those of ordinary skill in the art
without creative work fall within the scope of protection of the present disclosure.
[0020] A need exists to provide a shore-based oscillating water column wave energy power generation device integrated with a permeable wave elimination structure, so as to solve or at
least ameliorate one or more of the problems in the prior art.
[0021] In order to make the features and advantages of the present disclosure more apparent and more comprehensible, the present disclosure is further described in detail below with
reference to the accompanying drawings and specific implementation manners.
[0022] The shore-based oscillating water column wave energy power generation device integrated with a permeable wave elimination structure in the present embodiment, as shown in
Figs. 1 to 2, includes a square ring cylinder 2, a square cover plate 3, a turbine power generation
system 4, an airflow pipeline 5, an air chamber 6, and a permeable plate 7.
[0023] The air chamber 6 is a cavity consisting of the square ring cylinder 2 and the square cover plate 3. The square ring cylinder 2 is a hollow square cylinder with openings in top end
and bottom end. The back surface of the square ring cylinder 2 is fixed to a breakwater or a bank
1. The permeable plate 7 is arranged on the front surface, facing waves, of the square ring
cylinder 2. The square cover plate 3 is arranged at the top of the square ring cylinder 2. The
square cover plate 3 and the square ring cylinder 2 have equal side length and are connected by
high-strength stainless steel bolts. The airflow pipeline 5 is arranged at the central position of the
square cover plate 3. The turbine power generation system 4 is arranged in the airflow pipeline 5.
The turbine power generation system 4 consists of an air turbine and a power generator. The air
turbine is connected to the power generator.
[0024] In the present specific embodiment, as shown in Fig. 3, a plurality of square permeable
holes are distributed in the permeable plate 7. The permeable plate 7 is fixed to the square ring cylinder 2 through high-strength bolts. The permeable plate 7 can protect an oscillating water column type wave energy power generation device in a marine environment and reduce the cost of maintenance and replacement.
[0025] In the present specific embodiment, the square ring cylinder 2, the square cover plate 3, and the airflow pipeline 5 are made of a high-strength light-weight material. The high-strength
light-weight material may be Martensitic stainless steel which is widely applied. The joints are
anchored by high-strength stainless steel bolts.
[0026] In the marine environment, the energy of the short-period waves can be absorbed due to the action of the permeable plate 7. The long-period waves can transmit into the square ring
cylinder 2 through the bottom of the square ring cylinder 2 to drive water columns in the air
chamber 6 to oscillate up and down, thereby forcing the air in the air chamber 6 to compress and
expand. The compression and expansion of the air will form reciprocating airflow in the airflow
pipeline 5, so as to promote the turbine power generation system to work and generate
electricity. The water column in the air chamber 6 has a fixed fluctuation frequency, which is
related to the structural geometric size of the air chamber 6. According to the sea conditions of a
target sea area, the air chamber 6 with a suitable size is selected, so that the oscillating frequency
of the water column in the air chamber 6 is similar to the frequency of the waves outside to
produce resonance, thereby improving the flow velocity and the flow rate of the air in the airflow
pipeline 5, and then improving the power generation efficiency.
[0027] The square ring cylinder 2 can be fixed to the breakwater or bank 1 by using high strength stainless steel bolts, which can generate electricity stably by using the waves, and can
also give consideration to energy elimination and wave protection.
[0028] In the present specific embodiment, the opening of the airflow pipeline 5 at the upper part of the square cover plate 3 is smoothed to ensure that the air can enter the airflow pipeline 5
stably, which reduces the resistance and effectively improves the power generation efficiency.
[0029] In the present specific embodiment, the turbine power generation system 4 can work under the action of bidirectional airflow (one direction of the bidirectional airflow is that the
airflow flows outside from inside to promote a turbine to rotate to generate electricity when the
pressure intensity in the air chamber is greater than the external atmospheric pressure intensity, and the other direction of the bidirectional airflow is that the airflow flows inside from outside to promote the turbine to rotate to generate electricity from another direction when the external atmospheric pressure intensity is greater than the pressure intensity in the air chamber). Electricity can be generated when the airflow flows in and out of the airflow pipeline 5, so that the power generation efficiency is improved.
[0030] In this specification, specific examples are used to describe the principle and implementation manners of the present disclosure. The description of the embodiments above is merely intended to help understand the method and core idea of the present disclosure. In addition, those of ordinary skill in the art may make modifications based on the idea of the present disclosure with respect to the specific implementation manners and the application scope. In conclusion, the content of the present specification shall not be construed as a limitation to the present disclosure.
