COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARDPATENT AGRICULTURAL TYNE ASSEMBLY
The following statement is a full description of this invention including the best method of performing it known to me:
(Complete speci):
AGRICULTURAL TYNE ASSEMBLY TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present invention relates to an agricultural tyne assembly. The present invention has particular, although not exclusive application to placing seed or fertilizer at depth in the ground.
BACKGROUND
[0002] The reference to any prior art in this specification is not, and should not be taken as an acknowledgement or any form of suggestion that the prior art forms part of the common general knowledge.
[0003] Agricultural equipment including tractors is used in planting seed and placing fertilizer.
[0004] Traditionally, fertilizer was spread about the surface of the ground. Moisture is maintained beneath the ground and so it can be more effective to have the fertilizer located beneath the ground. However, tilling the ground with known tynes to fertilize at depth has the disadvantage of immensely disrupting the ground surface.
[0005] The preferred embodiment provides a tyne assembly for fertilizing at depth with minimal ground surface disruption.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0006] According to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided an agricultural tyne assembly including: fastening means for fastening to agricultural equipment; and a tyne for extending from the fastening means.
[0007] The assembly may further include one or more wheels mounted to the tyne. Advantageously, the wheels may include a pair of wheels, each located on an opposite side of the tyne, and for rolling along the ground proximal the intersection of the tyne with the ground surface to hold the soil together during tilling and minimize ground
(Complete speci): surface disruption. The assembly may include an alternative stabilizing means for stabilising the ground proximal the intersection of the tyne with the ground surface to stabilise the soil during tilling and minimize ground surface disruption. The assembly may further include one or two closing wheels behind the tyne.
[0008] The wheels may be adjustable to be mounted in one of many possible positions on the tyne to suit the depth of the tyne in the ground. The tyne may extend up to about 40cm or 45cm deep into the ground.
[0009] The assembly may further include a dispenser extending along the tyne toward the bottom of the tyne and for dispersing fertilizer and/or seed within the ground. The dispenser may include a tube terminating proximal the bottom.
[00010] The assembly may further include moving means for moving the tyne relative to the fastening means to control the depth of the tyne. The moving means may include a ram. Alternatively, the assembly may include a pin for holding the tyne relative to the fastening means.
[00011] The tyne may be substantially straight and extend at an oblique angle during tilling. The tyne may be pivotally mounted to the fastening means The tyne may be pivoted between a backwards angle from direction of tillage and horizonal configuration, preferably between 950 and 1600, and preferably may extend at about 1250 from horizontal during tilling.
[00012] The fastening means may include a bracket. The bracket may include a U shaped body. The tyne may include a replaceable tip. The tip may extend transverse the tyne to facilitate ground penetration.
[00013] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a tyne assembly for agricultural equipment, the tyne assembly including a tyne.
[00014] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided an agricultural equipment including a tyne.
(Complete speci):
[00015] Any of the features described herein can be combined in any combination with any one or more of the other features described herein within the scope of the invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[00016] Preferred features, embodiments and variations of the invention may be discerned from the following Detailed Description which provides sufficient information for those skilled in the art to perform the invention. The Detailed Description is not to be regarded as limiting the scope of the preceding Summary of the Invention in any way. The Detailed Description will make reference to a number of drawings as follows:
[00017] Figure 1 is a side view of an agricultural tyne assembly in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention; and
[00018] Figure 2 is a side view of the tyne assembly of Figure 1 with wheels fitted.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[00019] According to an embodiment of the present invention, there is provided an agricultural tyne assembly 100 as shown in Figure 1 where all dimensions are in millimetres. The assembly 100 includes fastening means 102 for fastening to agricultural equipment such as a tractor or tractor trailer. An adjustable tyne 104 is substantially straight, rather than curved or bent, and extends backwards from the fastening means at an oblique angle during tilling.
[00020] Turning briefly to Figure 2, the assembly 100 further includes a pair of depth wheels 200, each mounted on an opposite side of the tyne 104. The wheels 200 roll along the ground 202 in close proximity the intersection of the tyne 104 with the ground surface 202, to hold the ground soil together during tilling and minimize ground surface disruption.
[00021] Returning to Figure 1, the wheels 200 are adjustable to be mounted in one of many possible axle hole positions 106 on the tyne 104 to suit the depth of the tyne 104 in the ground 202. The tyne 104 can typically extend up to about 40cm or 45cm deep into the ground 202 during tilling.
(Complete speci):
[00022] The tyne 104 is pivotally mounted to the fastening means 102 about pivot 108. The tyne 104 can be adjustably pivoted between a vertical and horizonal configuration, and preferably can extend backwards between 950 and 1600, say at about 1250 from horizontal during tilling.
[00023] The assembly 100 further includes moving means 110, in the form of a pneumatic or hydraulic telescopic ram, for moving the tyne 104 relative to the fastening means 102 to control the depth of the tyne 104.
[00024] The fastening means 102 includes a bracket with a U-shaped body for receiving the tyne 104. The tyne 104 includes a replaceable tip 112. The tip 112 extends forwards and transverse the overall tyne 104 to facilitate ground penetration, forming an underside angle of about 1600.
[00025] The assembly 100 further includes a dispenser 114 extending along the back of the tyne 104 toward the tyne bottom for dispersing fertilizer and/or seed within the ground 202. In particular, the dispenser 114 includes at least one feeder tube terminating proximal the bottom.
[00026] The assembly 100 is particularly useful for cereal crops.
[00027] A person skilled in the art will appreciate that many embodiments and variations can be made without departing from the ambit of the present invention.
[00028] In one embodiment, the assembly may include an alternative stabilizing means, such as one or more skids, for stabilising the ground proximal the intersection of the tyne with the ground surface to stabilise the soil during tilling and minimize ground surface disruption.
[00029] The tyne 104 can be typically sold as part of a kit for retro-fitting to existing agricultural equipment. In another embodiment, the tyne 104 is manufactured as part of agricultural equipment without the need for the fastening means 102.
[00030] In one embodiment, the assembly 100 further includes one or two closing wheels trailing behind the tyne 104 for closing the furrow created by the tyne 104.
(Complete speci):
[00031] In place of the ram 110, the assembly 100 include a shear pin for holding the tyne 104 relative to the fastening means 102.
[00032] In compliance with the statute, the invention has been described in language more or less specific to structural or methodical features. It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to specific features shown or described since the means herein described comprises preferred forms of putting the invention into effect.
[00033] Reference throughout this specification to 'one embodiment' or'an embodiment' means that a particular feature, structure, or characteristic described in connection with the embodiment is included in at least one embodiment of the present invention. Thus, the appearance of the phrases 'in one embodiment' or'in an embodiment' in various places throughout this specification are not necessarily all referring to the same embodiment. Furthermore, the particular features, structures, or characteristics may be combined in any suitable manner in one or more combinations.
