An improved apparatus and method for facilitating interactions between a domestic chef or cook and a consumer
[0001] TECHNICAL FIELD
[0002] The present invention relates to improved apparatus and method for conducting business via a smartphone or computer application, in particular the business of matching a domestic chef or cook to a consumer.
BACKGROUND ART
[0003] The following discussion of the background art is intended to facilitate an understanding of the present invention only. The discussion is not an acknowledgment or admission that any of the material referred to is or was part of the common general knowledge as at the priority date of the application.
[0004] Computer and smartphone applications ("apps") for ordering and delivering prepared food such as Uber eats, Menulog, Doordash are becoming more prevalent and are in use by consumers in increasing numbers and frequency. Existing apps only deal with commercial restaurants and food shops and in that regard are limited in scope. Consumers have an interest in accessing a diverse range of home-cooked meals from a wider range of chefs and cooks who do not necessarily provide their prepared meals through commercial outlets.
[0005] There are many skilled chefs and cooks who are unable to afford the overheads associated with commercial premises but who have a valuable offering in terms of culinary skills and expertise. Further, without maintaining a commercial food licence and premises these chefs and cooks are limited in their ability to show off their talents and to generate income from exploiting their skills and talents.
[0006] The inventor has devised a method of enabling chefs with particular cooking skills who prepare food from home based kitchens to directly sell their home cooked meals to interested consumers. The application of the present invention enables a far wider range of prepared food offerings to consumers and permits non-commercial chefs and cooks access to consumers to whom they would otherwise be disconnected and unavailable.
[0007] The present invention seeks to overcome, or at least ameliorate, one or more of the deficiencies of the prior art mentioned above, or to provide the consumer with a useful or commercial choice.
[0008] Each document, reference, patent application or patent cited in this text is expressly incorporated herein in their entirety by reference, which means that it should be read and considered by the reader as part of this text. That the document, reference, patent application or patent cited in this text is not repeated in this text is merely for reasons of conciseness.
[0009] Reference to apparatus throughout this specification will be deemed to apply to any apparatus which may be used or employed for matching a domestic chef or cook to a consumer.
[0010] Throughout this specification, unless the context requires otherwise, the word "comprise" or variations such as "comprises" or "comprising", will be understood to imply the inclusion of a stated integer or group of integers but not the exclusion of any other integer or group of integers

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0016] Further features of the present invention are more fully described in the following description of several non-limiting embodiments thereof. This description is included solely for the purposes of exemplifying the present invention. It should not be understood as a restriction on the broad summary, disclosure or description of the invention as set out above. The description will be made with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Pages 1 through 94 are a series of screenshots of the application interactive graphical user interface displayed on a computer or smartphone screen of a range of possible users.
DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS
[0017] The application of the present invention is similar to existing food applications like Uber Eats and Menulog with the additional novel beneficial feature of promoting home-based cooks and matching them with consumers in order that they might showcase their culinary talents and generate income therefrom. The present invention also enables consumers the hitherto unavailable opportunity to try new recipes potentially on a daily basis at a cost which is vastly reduced when compared with existing food applications or traditional commercial food providores. The invention thus provides an enabling mechanism for both cooks and consumers of their foodstuffs and offers a convenient and cost-effective means of accessing an increased range of options of prepared foods.
[0018] The features of the invention include the ability of chefs to prepare meals in their own kitchen without the limiting financial overheads of working from commercial premises. Chefs can host parties at home and are enabled to do so by using the application. The application provides for a number of delivery options, food types and price ranges according to the user's requirements and preferences. Users have the ability to offer catering and tiffin delivery services from home to consumers.
[0019] The application enables common people with cooking skills a platform to operate food preparation businesses from home and provides diners with an increased range of new recipes to experience prepared by local chefs at a prices considerably less than commercial restaurants and other prepared food outlets. The transactions enabled by the application will have the flow on effect of stimulating local economies and creating employment opportunities.
[0020] Pages 1 through 73 show a series of screenshots of the application interactive graphical user interface displayed on a computer or smartphone screen. Page 1 is the opening or entry tile which a user can interact with to open the application on the computer or smartphone screen. After opening the application on the computer or smartphone, the user (in this instance a food provider) is asked to create an account as a chef or restaurant as displayed on page 6, and is directed to enter their data for that purpose. The application records user data such as name, address, telephone number, email address, whether the user is prepared to host meals at their premises or not. The user may register as a vegetarian, non-vegetarian or omnivore as indicated on page 13. The user is able to add details of recipes that they would like to offer along with the price, times available and a description of the recipe. The provider's details are recorded and are visible by other users of the application who have a verified account. Page 16 is an example of a recipe displayed upon the computer or smartphone screen.
[0021] Pages 23 through 37 show details of application for a restaurant-based user. As indicated on page 32, the user is prompted to accept or decline an order placed by a consumer using the application. Page 33 shows a pair of takeaway orders received by the user, the first of which indicates that it has been received, the second indicating its status as having been delivered.
[0022] Pages 38 through 46 show the user interface as it pertains to an individual chef user. The chef logs in to his or her account, receives a verification request to ensure security of application data and is directed to an account creation page. A user can view a range of chefs available to prepare food within their local area as indicated on page 43. On page 44 there is provision for the chef to indicate whether they can host consumers and the number of consumers that can be hosted at their premises. Payment method can be selected as indicated on page 46.
[0023] Individual user data such as the user's profile, order history, payment method and settings is stored within the application and is accessible by the user through the interactive graphical user interface of the application when displayed upon a computer or smartphone screen as indicated on pages 47 through 53.
[0024] The application of the present invention also provides for users who wish to provide services as delivery couriers. Pages 74 through 94 show examples of the graphical user interface that displays upon the computer or smartphone screen and through which the user can input data and interact with other users of the application. As page 78 indicates the delivery driver user can provide a copy of his or her vehicle drivers licence or other certification required according to local laws. Upon opening the application the delivery user can indicate whether he or she is offline and taking a break or is online and willing to accept delivery jobs from food provider users. Insome embodiments of the invention, the delivery users can accept pickup tasks from consumers as well as food providers thereby doubling their available customer base. Once the delivery user indicates that he or she is online, the inbuilt smartphone GPS indicates the user's position upon the screen and the user can accept delivery tasks as indicated on pages 81 and 82. The application provides real time GPS monitoring of the delivery user's position to assist in ensuring that deliveries are completed properly. The user's trip history and receipts are stored within the application and are readily accessible through the application.
[0025] Payments between users of the application are processed through the application using a third party transaction facilitator such as PayPal, Strype or similar. Funds paid by users are held in escrow until such time as the customer (whether food provider, consumer or delivery user) confirms that the order has been completed and funds may be released.
[0026] The application also has provision for users to leave reviews and make comments about any order or transaction and the application can rank users according to their favourable reviews, interactions and order history.
[0027] There would be a page for chefs where they can post their ads including menu offered, prices, whether they can host patrons or not and if so, how many, whether they have any minimum to maximum hosting requirements and details of the theme of hosting site. Chefs can also host parties, do tiffin services and cater for others' parties or can elect to have their prepared foods delivered to consumers.
[0028] Diners are able to search for a wide variety of foods, adjust the distance within which they are looking, select dine-in, takeaway or delivery and can easily adjust the price range within which they are searching.
[0029] Diners can post requests for catering services, party hosting and food providers can interact with the consumers and make offers of service and supply.
[0030] The application does not permit private chats between users or sharing personal information between chefs and diners unless an order has been placed however they can chat publicly in comments section. Once an order has been placed, money is deducted from diner's account and when the order has been completed, money is released to the chef's account.
[0031] Both chefs and diners have to register their account with their personal details like their name, address, email, phone number and their bank details.
[0032] Modifications and variations such as would be apparent to the skilled addressee are considered to fall within the scope of the present invention.
