Description

Surveillance equipment mounting apparatus
Technical Field [0001] The present disclosure relates to surveillance equipment, particularly temporary installations of surveillance equipment at building sites and other work sites. In particular, the present invention relates to the secure mounting of surveillance equipment, such as cameras and lighting apparatus, in elevated locations.
Background of the Invention [0002] Construction, industrial or mining worksites often require the installation of surveillance equipment and/or temporary lighting at an elevated height. Temporary or movable lighting and/or surveillance equipment is also required in many other remote or isolated applications.
[0003] Ideally, for temporary work site applications, the surveillance equipment needs to be able to be installed and removed easily and to be supported and secured at an appropriate height, so as to avoid tampering, as well as being secured on a strong support to help prevent the equipment falling or toppling in strong wind or due to inadvertent impact.
[0004] Typically, the surveillance equipment is mounted at the top of an elongate equipment pole or post. With battery packs, control systems, cameras, and/or lights, the surveillance equipment being supported at the top of the equipment post can be quite bulky. In order to power the surveillance equipment, solar panels are often located above the surveillance equipment at the top of the equipment post. The weight of the surveillance equipment and solar panel leaves the equipment post prone to toppling and the bulky nature of the equipment also creates a large wind load in strong winds. These factors create challenges for installing the equipment post, in a temporary fashion, that still provides sufficient reinforcement to prevent the equipment post from toppling over due to the weight of equipment, wind load, and/or impact.
Object of the Invention [0005] It is an object of the present invention to substantially overcome or at least ameliorate one or more of the above disadvantages, or to provide a useful alternative.

Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiments [0025] A surveillance equipment mounting apparatus 10, as shown in use in Fig. 4, includes a surveillance equipment support assembly 100 assembled to a temporary fencing panel 200 to support surveillance equipment, such as a security camera 210 and/or motion detector, as well as control circuitry and a power supply, such as a battery and/or solar panel 220. The surveillance equipment mounting apparatus 10 provides a secure and elevated installation for the surveillance equipment 210 that can be easily assembled and is strong and stable, even in elevated wind conditions.
[0026] The surveillance equipment support assembly 100 includes an elongate support post 110 and at least one brace member 120. In the embodiment depicted, the surveillance equipment support 100 includes four brace members 120. The support post 110 has a base 112 at a lower end and a mounting 114 at an upper end that is adapted to support surveillance equipment. The support post 110 has a main post 116 that is typically formed from steel with a square or rectangular hollow section profile for strength. The support post 110 also includes at least one attachment arm 118 laterally spaced from, and parallel to, the main post 116 and connected to the main post 116 by at least one, but preferably a series, of spacers 115. In the embodiment depicted, the support post 110 includes two attachment arms 118 each connected by a series of three spacers 115. To facilitate attachment of the brace members 120, the attachment arms 118 are typically formed from steel with a circular hollow section profile.
[0027] The brace members 120 each have a proximal end connected or securable to one of the attachment arms 118 and a distal end adapted to be secured to a temporary fencing panel 200. In the embodiment depicted, the brace members 120 each have a first transverse bar 122 at the proximal end and a second transverse bar 124 at the distal end. The first transverse bar 122 of each brace member 120 is secured to the respective attachment arm 118 by way of a first clamp 130. The second transverse bar 124 of each brace member 120 is secured to the fencing panel 200 by way of a second clamp 132.
[0028] As best shown in Fig. 5, for each brace member 120, the first clamp 130 attaches to the tubular attachment arm 118 and to the first transverse bar 122 and the second clamp 132 attaches to the frame of the fencing panel 200 and to the second transverse bar 124. In the embodiment shown, the first transverse bar 122 has the same diameter as the attachment arm 118 and the second transverse bar 124 has the same diameter as the
2019101465 27 Nov 2019 frame of the fencing panel 200. This allows standard temporary fencing clamps to be used for both the first clamp 122 and the second clamp 124.
[0029] As the attachment arms 120 and the first transverse bars 122 have a circular crosssectional profile, the brace members 120 can be pivoted to various positions relative to the support post 110. This allows the surveillance equipment support assembly 100 to be assembled to a single fencing panel 200, as depicted in Figs 3 and 4, or in a corner, across two adjacent fencing panels 200, as depicted in Fig. 6. It also allows the support assembly 100 to be compatible with different sizes of fencing panels 200 as the brace members 120 can be pivoted appropriately to fit a variety of fencing panel sizes.
[0030] In order to provide further stability, the base 112 includes an upright ballast stem 140 that is able to receive a plurality of ballast blocks 142 lowered over the stem 140.
[0031] As depicted in Fig. 3, when the surveillance equipment support assembly 100 is assembled to a temporary fencing panel 200, the fencing panel 200 and the brace members 120 form a strong triangular brace that holds the support post 110 in a rigid upright position. As depicted in Fig. 6, when the surveillance equipment support assembly 100 is assembled across two adjacent temporary fencing panels 200, the fencing panels 200 and the brace members 120 form a strong quadrilateral brace that holds the support post 110 in a rigid upright position.
[0032] The surveillance equipment support assembly 100 when mounted to one or more temporary fencing panels 200 provides a strong and stable installation for supporting surveillance equipment at an elevated height that can withstand strong wind conditions. The support assembly can be easily installed and removed with minimal labour and can be assembled using standard design temporary fencing clamps.
[0033] Standard design temporary fencing clamps are clamps designed for joining adjacent temporary fencing panels to one another and typically comprise opposing halves each comprising a central portion joining two generally semi-circular portions. The opposing halves are clamped together by a bolt passing through the two central portions and secured by a nut.
[0034] Although the invention has been described with reference to specific examples, it will be appreciated by those skilled in the art that the invention may be embodied in many other forms.
