Description
Title
Buzz-Yo-Child (BYC): A alert device for students used during school pick up times
Background
Every parent who has put their children through school, especially primary school would be familiar with the long vehicle cues during school pick up times. Every Monday to Friday from 2.50pm to 3.15pm or thereafter, year in year out, there is always a line of vehicle waiting to pick up students from the stop-drop-go zone. Some schools are fortunate to have bigger car park area which allows parents to park and collect their chiId/children while most other schools use the stop-drop-go zone.
Parents driving through the stop-drop-go zone require a lot of patience as they wait for the vehicle in front of them to pick up their student and drive out. Several issues observed during pick up times are as follows: • There is a long line of cars waiting one after the other. Most times, this line continues onto the main road and slows the normal flow of traffic • Students are ushered to the front of their school gate and they have to identify their parent's car. • During hot sunny afternoon, students stand out in the sun to wait for their parent's car. It can get too tiring for younger students • During rainy afternoon, students stay in undercover area and more work is given to teachers on duty to bring students to their parent's car. • Vehicles can cue out to the main road and most times stops normal flow of traffic. In some instances, some vehicles were pulled over by the road police for cueing on the main road which is a hazard to commuters.
Ever wondered how these issues can be resolved?
Hence, there is a need for a small communicating device to alert students of whose parents are waiting already at the pick-up area.
Buzz-Yo-Child Concept BYC as mentioned in the title is a simple communicating tool between parent and student. BYC will consist of: 1. A small device (as small as a Bag Tag) to be carried by student. 2. A phone Application which connects to the device and can be downloaded on both android and iOS phones. To be used by parent. A small device A small electronic device which connects to school Wi-Fi will be inserted into a Bag Tag. This device is called BYC Bag Tag. BYC Bag Tag will consist of a small display screen, a send button and an ON/OFF button. Display screen will be used to display parents phone numbers when parent sends a notification from Buzz-Yo-Child App to BYC Bag Tag. When notification is received, student will press the send button. Send button, automatically sends notification back to parent that child has received notification. There will be no voice messaging involved. This device will only have a screen and two buttons and can receive notification from registered phone numbers only. BYC Bag Tag will be small, convenient, weatherproof and an affordable product. BYC Application
An App which connects BYC Bag Tag to Android and iOS phones. This will be a simple app to send message or notification to BYC Bag Tag. When a BYC Bag Tag is bought, parents will download BYC app and connect BYC Bag Tag to their phone. Each BYC Bag Tag is unique and will only receive buzzer and message from phone numbers registered on it.
Design Description BYC Bag Tag is a small device that can come in the form of a Bag Tag. This device consists of an inbuilt function that will only connect to school Wi-Fi. There is no sim card involved or registration with mobile phone companies. BYC Bag Tag will have: • Display Screen - This screen will display registered phone numbers when an alert is received • Green Light - Is a visual indication to student that an alert had been sent. The device will also vibrate/buzz when an alert is received • Send Button - When an Alert is received, the student presses the Send button. This will automatically send an alert back to the parent to inform them that the student has received the notification and, on their way, to pick up point. • ON/OFF Button - Simply to put device OFF during school hours and ON during pick up hours. BYC Bag Tag will be charged using a USB and will have a battery life of up to 1 week so Students can recharge at the end of a school week. It will be waterproof, economical, efficient and simple to use device.
How does BYC BAG TAG Works BYC Bag Tag will be used by students who usually get dropped off and picked-up in the stop-drop-go zone. When a parent drives in to pick up their child/chiIdren, they will use their phones (when the vehicle is parked), to send an alert or notification to their chiId/children.
All they do is, go to BYC App on their phone, and send a buzzer alert to their child's BYC Bag Tag. The child will receive the Alert, show it to the Teacher on duty, visually identify their parent's car and walk to the car.
Siblings attending same school can decide to have only one BYC Bag Tag. They can all meet after school and move swiftly to their parent's vehicle after receiving notification.
Once they get into their car, they can switch the device OFF. Device will only be switched ON when the bell goes for end of school day.
Benefits of BYC BAG TAG
The benefits of BYC BAG TAG includes the following: 1. Smooth flow of traffic as students will know which vehicle is ready for pick up 2. This will greatly assist teachers on duty at the stop drop go zone. They will not have to call out names and ask students if their parents have arrived yet or not. 3. This will keep students in an undercover or shady area, so they don't have to wait out at the stopdrop-go zone during rainy days or very hot afternoon. 4. There is no calling or voice messaging so it will not distract student during class time. 5. You only charge the device once a week
Conclusion BYC Bag Tag will be a revolutionary product that will greatly help parents, teachers and students during pick up time after school. Students won't have to keep looking out for their parent's car. Teachers on duty won't have to continue asking students if they can see their parent's car in the cue or not. Parents don't have to wait impatiently for their child/children. Traffic will flow smoothly as each student gets picked up by responding to Buzz Alert on their BYC Bag Tag.
