STEAMER BASKET AND ELECTRIC COOKER
The present invention relates to the area of cooking food and relates concretely to a steamer basket and an electric cooker.
Document US6840159A1 teaches an electric cooker comprising a steamer basket which comprises a filling cylinder, which filling cylinder is provided with a filling chamber, wherein a bottom wall of this filling cylinder comprises a permeable area, which permeable area of the bottom wall is pierced by several passage holes for the steam which traverse the bottom wall, and a bottom cover placed under the filling cylinder, which bottom cover is connected to the filling cylinder by a hermetic device, wherein the space between the bottom cover and the lower surface of the bottom wall encloses a steam passage cavity, which bottom cover is provided with an opening mechanism, which opening mechanism is connected to the filling chamber by the steam passage cavity and the steam passage holes.
Electric cookers for cooking rice such as the current rice cookers comprise an inner container inside of which a steamer basket is arranged, the rice is placed in the steamer basket and water is placed in the inner container. The inner container is heated in order to make the water present in the inner container boil so that it penetrates into the steamer basket and rinses the rice until the water level drops below the steamer basket. The separation of the rice and the water is then carried out. Then, the heating is continued, and the generated steam is used to cook the rice with the steam and the rinsing water will have removed a part of the sugar contained in the rice with the rice water in order to obtain in this manner a rice cooked with a low sugar content.
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU
The use of current steamer baskets present certain disadvantages, which disadvantages stem from the fact that they use only boiling water, which is not very favorable for the entire contact of the water and of the rice.
The method in which the water enters into the steamer basket in order to rinse the rice or make the rice absorb the water does not guarantee that a sufficient quantity of water enters into the steamer basket, which makes it impossible for a part of the rise to enter into contact with the water and therefore makes it impossible to efficiently proceed to the rinsing of the rice and to the absorption of the water by the rice, which finally affects the texture in the mouth of the obtained rice. Furthermore, the current steamer basket structures also do not allow a good realization of the process of the separation of the water and of the rice to be guaranteed, which makes it difficult to obtain a rice with a low glycemic index (IG) (sugar).
The present invention has the goal of making available a steamer basket and an electric cooker which resolve the technical difficulties of the current electric cookers with a stable realization of the contact process of the water and of the rice or of the separation of the water and the rice, which make it impossible to cook a rice with a low glycemic index (IG).
This goal is achieved by a steamer basket characterized in that it comprises:
- a filling cylinder, which filling cylinder is provided with a filling chamber, and wherein a bottom wall of this filling cylinder comprises a permeable area; the permeable area of the bottom wall is pierced by several water passage holes which extend through the bottom wall;
- a bottom cover placed under the filling cylinder, which bottom cover is connected to the filling cylinder by a hermetic device, wherein the space between the bottom cover and the lower surface of the bottom wall encloses a water passage
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU cavity and the bottom cover is provided with an opening mechanism, which opening mechanism is connected to the filling chamber by the water passage cavity and the water passage holes.
According to another embodiment the basket comprises a first sealing part placed in the contact area between the bottom cover and the filling cylinder.
According to another embodiment the bottom cover and the filling cylinder are assembled.
According to another embodiment the outer edge of the bottom wall comprises at least two first fastening mechanisms which are facing in the direction of a side of the bottom cover, and the outer edge of the bottom cover comprises second fastening mechanisms cooperating with the first fastening mechanisms.
According to another embodiment the second fastening mechanisms are placed in fixation holes or fixation grooves located on the bottom cover.
According to another embodiment the first fastening mechanisms comprise an interconnected transition section and a stop section, which second mechanisms are placed in the fixation holes of the bottom cover, which fixation holes comprise an interconnected opening section and a contraction section; the bottom cover has, relative to the filling cylinder, a first operating position and a second operating position; when the bottom cover is located at the first operating position the stop section traverses the opening section; when the bottom cover (20) is moved from the first operating position to the second operating position the transition section slides out of the opening section so that the stop section stops at the level of the contraction section.
According to another embodiment the opening mechanism has a straight tubular shape or a conical shape.
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU
According to another embodiment the bottom cover has a curved surface of which one side extends out in the direction opposite to the bottom wall (12) and the opening mechanism is situated at the geometric center of the bottom cover.
According to another embodiment the ratio between the opening surface of the opening mechanism and the cross section of the filling chamber of the filling cylinder is greater than or equal to 0.05 and less than or equal to 1.5.
According to another embodiment the ratio between the opening surface of the opening mechanism and the cross section of the filling chamber of the filling cylinder (10) is greater than or equal to 0.3 and lower than or equal to 0.8.
io The invention also relates to an electric cooker, characterized in that it comprises:
- an outer housing;
- an inner container arranged inside the outer housing; and
- a steamer basket such as defined in one of the previous embodiments, which steamer basket is placed inside the inner container, wherein the upper part of the filling cylinder of this steamer basket is hermetically joined to the opening of the inner container.
According to another embodiment a second sealing joint is placed between the upper part of the filling cylinder of the steamer basket and the opening of the inner container.
According to another embodiment the ratio between the height extending from the 15 opening mechanism of the bottom cover of the steamer basket to the bottom of the inner container and the depth of the inner container is greater than or equal to 0.1 and lower than or equal to 0.8.
According to another embodiment the bottom wall of the filling cylinder of the steamer basket has a flat or curved structure and the ratio between the height 4
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU extending from the opening of the opening mechanism to the lowest point of the permeable area of the bottom wall and the depth of the inner container is greater than or equal to 0.1 and lower than or equal to 0.8.
According to another embodiment the bottom wall of the filling cylinder of the steamer basket has a flat or curved structure and the ratio between the height extending from the lowest point of the permeable area of the bottom wall to the upper edge of the inner container and the depth of the inner container is greater than or equal to 0.1 and lower than or equal to 0.8.
In the application of the technical project of the present invention, given that the bottom wall of the filling cylinder comprises a permeable area, the water located inside the inner container is sent under the action of pressure through the water passage holes of this permeable area to the filling chamber or evacuated out of the filling chamber, it is therefore possible in this manner to realize in a repeated manner the soaking and the rinsing of the rice inside the filling chamber in order to reduce the sugar content of the rice.
After the steamer basket has been placed in the inner container, the upper part of the filling cylinder is hermetically joined to the opening of the inner container. In the preliminary phase the water level located inside the inner container is higher than the opening mechanism of the bottom cover in such a manner as to form a hermetic space between the steamer basket and the inner container. As there is a water passage cavity between the bottom cover of the steamer basket and the bottom wall of the filling cylinder, when the inner container is heated the pressure inside the hermetic space increases and the water is sent under the action of the pressure through the opening mechanism and the water passage cavity into the filling chamber in order to make contact with the rice and realize the rinsing, soaking, the cooking with the water and the absorption of the water by the rice, then, the water level having 5
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU dropped, when the water leaves the filling chamber the water is separated from the rice located in the filling chamber. Therefore, when the rinsing process or the process of cooking the rice with water with the water present in the inner container has been completed, the following process of cooking the rice with steam is initiated.
It should be made clear that when the water level drops to where it reaches the opening mechanism, the hermetic space between the steamer basket and the inner container is no longer hermetic and this space which is now non-hermetic is connected to the water passage cavity and to the filling chamber. The rising steam enters through the opening mechanism into the filling chamber or, after having entered into the hermetic space, then enters through the opening mechanism to the filling chamber in order to proceed to the steam cooking of the rice. At this moment, since the hermetic space has lost its tightness, the steam does not accumulate in the hermetic space and the pressure inside the hermetic space will not increase in a continuous manner. In other words, since the steam inside the hermetic space has lost its tightness, it is incapable of compressing the water outside of the inner container in order to send it to the water passage cavity.
In the usage of the electric cooker of the present invention the controlling of the numbers of entries or of exits of the water in or out of the filling chamber, of the water temperature and of the retention time of the water inside the filling chamber allows the electric cooker to carry out in an automatic manner the process of rinsing the rice and the absorption of water by the rice in such a manner that the electric cooker cooks rice with a more nutritious low glycemic index (IG) and increases the degree of satisfaction of the consumers regarding the cooking process. Also, the electric cooker of the present invention has multiple functions, is largely automated and is practical to use.

It should be clarified that in the absence of incompatibility, the examples of applications of the present application and the characteristics of these examples of applications can be mutually combined. The present invention will be explained below in a concise manner using the attached reference figures combined with examples of applications.
It should be noted that the detailed explanations below are all supplied as examples in order to supply a more thorough explanation of the present invention. Unless otherwise mentioned, all the technical and scientific terms used here are currently accepted such as admitted by the ordinary persons skilled in the art relative to the present application.
In the present application, given the absence of an inverse indication, the terms of direction such as “above, below, higher than, lower than” generally refer to the orientations indicated in the attached figures or refer to vertical, perpendicular or gravitational directions of the parts themselves. Likewise, in order to facilitate the understanding and the description, “inside the” and “outside the” refer to the inside or to the outside of the outline of the part in question; however, the above-mentioned terms of direction do not constitute in any manner a limitation of the present invention.
The present invention solves the technical difficulties of current electric cookers with a stable implementation of the process of the contact with the water and with the rice or of the separation of the water and of the rice, which makes it impossible to cook rice with a low glycemic index (IG). The present invention proposes a steamer basket and an electric cooker. As the example of a possible application of
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU figure 1 shows, the electric cooker can be a rice cooker comprising an outer housing (1), an inner container (2) and a steamer basket, which steamer basket is placed inside the inner container (2), and the upper part of a filling cylinder (10) of the steamer basket and the opening of the inner container (2) are hermetically joined.
A second tightness joint (4) is placed between the upper part of the filling cylinder (10) of the steamer basket and the opening of the inner container (2).
In the concrete application mode of figure 10 the upper edge of the filling cylinder (10) is joined to the upper edge of the inner container (2) by a second tightness joint (4).
Of course, the electric cooker of the present invention can be a rice cooker, a microwave oven, an electric all-in-one or an electric pressure cooker. The electric cooker comprises in its interior the inner container (2), the second tightness joint (4) and the steamer basket, which steamer basket has the specificities presented below.
As the figures 2 to 11 show, the steamer basket comprises: a filling cylinder (10) and a bottom cover (20) located at the bottom of the filling cylinder (10). The filling cylinder (10) is provided with a filling chamber (11) and a permeable area is located on the bottom wall (12) of the filling cylinder (10). The permeable area of the bottom wall (12) is pierced by water passage holes (122). The bottom cover (20) is connected to the filling cylinder (10) by a hermetic device, the space between the bottom cover (20) and the lower surface of the bottom wall (12) encloses a water passage cavity (21), and the surface of the frontal projection of the bottom cover on the bottom wall (12) is greater than the surface of the permeable area. The bottom cover (20) is provided with an opening mechanism (22), which opening mechanism (22) is connected to the filling chamber (11) by the water passage cavity (21) and the water passage holes (122).
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU
Since the bottom wall (12) of the filling cylinder (10) comprises a permeable area, the water located inside the inner container (2) is sent under the action of the pressure through the water passage holes (122) from this permeable area to the filling chamber (11) or is evacuated out of the filling chamber (11) in which manner it is therefore possible to realize in a repeated manner the soaking and the rinsing of the rice inside the filling chamber (11) in order to reduce the sugar content of the rice.
The hermetic junction between the bottom cover (20) located under the filling cylinder (10) and the filling cylinder (10) allows a good tightness against air of the junction between the bottom cover (20) and the filling cylinder (10) to be guaranteed. At the same time, since the frontal projection of the bottom cover on the bottom wall (12) is greater than the surface of the permeable area, the water located inside the inner container (2) can only pass through the opening mechanism (22) in order to penetrate into the bottom cover (20) in order to guarantee that the electric cooker can effectively control the pressure inside the housing enclosed by the inner container (2), the bottom cover (20) and the filling cylinder (10) and to guarantee a good contact between the rice and the water in order to improve the reliability of the rinsing of the rice by the water coming from the inner container.
Concretely speaking, after the steamer basket has been placed in the inner container (2), the upper part of the filling cylinder (10) is hermetically joined to the opening of the inner container (2). In the preliminary phase the water level inside the inner container (2) is greater than the opening mechanism (22) of the bottom cover (20) so as to form a hermetic space between the steamer basket and the inner container (2). Since there is a water passage cavity (21) between the bottom cover (20) of the steamer basket and the bottom wall (12) of the filling cylinder (10), when the inner container (2) is heated, the pressure inside the hermetic space increases and the water is sent under the action of the pressure through the opening mechanism (22) and the io
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU water passage cavity (21) to the filling chamber (11) in order to make contact with the rice and perform the rinsing, the soaking, the cooking with the water and the absorption of the water by the rice, then, when the water level has dropped, when the water leaves the filling chamber (11) the water is separated from the rice located in the filling chamber (11). Since the process of rinsing or the process of cooking with water the rice with the water present in the inner container (2) has therefore been carried out well, the process of cooking the rice with steam follows.
It should be clarified that when the water level lowers until it reaches the opening mechanism (22), the hermetic space between the steamer basket in the inner container (2) is no longer hermetic and this space which is now not hermetic is connected to the water passage cavity (21) and to the filling chamber (11). The rising steam enters through the opening mechanism (22) into the filling chamber (11) or, after having entered into the hermetic space, it then enters through the opening mechanism (22) into the filling chamber (11) in order to proceed to the steamcooking of the rice. At this moment, since the hermetic space has lost its tightness, the steam will not accumulate in the hermetic space and the pressure inside the hermetic space will not increase in a continuous manner. In other words, since the steam inside the hermetic space lost its tightness, it is incapable of compressing the water out of the inner container (2) in order to send it toward the water passage cavity (21).
During the usage of the electric cooker of the present invention the control of the number of entries or exits of the water in or outside of the filling chamber (11), of the water temperature and of the retention time of the water inside the filling chamber (11) allows the electric cooker to automatically carry out the process of rinsing the rice and the absorption of the water by the rice in such a manner that the electric cooker cooks a rice with a more nutritious low glycemic index (IG) and n
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU increases the degree of satisfaction of the consumers regarding the cooking process. Also, the electric cooker of the present invention is multifunctional, largely automated and practical to use.
The steamer basket also comprises a first sealing part which is placed at the junction of the bottom cover (20) and of the filling cylinder (10). This improves even more the reliability of the tightness between the bottom cover (20) and the filling cylinder (10).
The bottom cover (20) and the filling cylinder (10) are attached together. Therefore, the dismounting of the bottom cover (20) and of the filling cylinder (10) is facilitated and the cleaning of the bottom cover (20) and the filling cylinder (10) is made practical.
Concretely speaking, as is shown in the figures 2 and 8, the outer edge of the bottom wall (12) comprises at least two first fastening mechanisms (123) which are facing in the direction of a side of the bottom cover (20), and the outer edge of the bottom cover (20) comprises second fastening mechanisms (124) corresponding to the first fastening mechanisms (123). This improves the reliability of the junction between the bottom cover (20) and the filling cylinder (10).
The first fastening mechanisms (123) are multiple and the number of the second fastening mechanisms (number 124) corresponds to that of the first fastening mechanisms (123), and each of these first multiple fastening mechanisms (123) corresponds to and is attached to each of the second fastening mechanisms (124).
As is shown in figures 6 to 9, the first fastening mechanisms (123) are fixed in the second fastening mechanisms (124) and after the rotation of the latter to the provided angle, the first fastening mechanisms (123) are solidly fixed in the second fastening mechanisms (124). Therefore, the user can readily assemble or disassemble the
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU bottom cover (20) of the filling cylinder (10) by turning the bottom cover (20) on the filling cylinder (10), which improves the convenience of using the steamer basket.
The second fastening mechanisms (124) are placed in the fixation holes or fixation grooves located on the bottom cover (20).
As is indicated in figures 5 and 7, the first fastening mechanisms (123) comprise a transition section (1231) and a stop section (1232) which are interconnected, wherein the second fastening mechanisms (124) are placed in the fixation holes of the bottom cover (20), which fixation holes comprise an opening section (1241) and a contraction section (1242) which are interconnected. The bottom cover (20) has, relative to the filling cylinder (10), a first operating position and a second operating position. When the bottom cover (20) is located at the first operating position, the stop section (1232) traverses the opening section (1241). When the bottom cover (20) is moved from the first operating position to the second operating position, the transition section (1231) slides out of the opening section (1241) in order that the stop section (1232) stops at the level of the contraction section (1242). Therefore, the using of a concrete structure constituted by the first fastening mechanisms and the fixation holes allows the movement of the bottom cover (20) on its axis upward relative to the filling cylinder (10) to be effectively restricted by moving the bottom cover (20) from the first operating position to the second operating position.
In an example of application as is shown in figures 2, 3, 10 and 11, the steamer basket also comprises a first tightness part, which first tightness part is placed at the junction between the bottom cover (20) and the filling cylinder (10), and this first tightness part is the first tightness joint (30), which first tightness joint is provided with avoidance holes (1233) for avoiding the first fastening mechanisms (123). In this manner a good tightness against air can be effectively guaranteed at the junction 13
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU between the bottom cover (20) and the filling cylinder (10) as well as avoiding that the water or the steam present inside the inner container (2) passes through the junction between the bottom cover (20) and the filling cylinder (10) and penetrates into the water passage cavity (21).
The opening mechanism (22) has a straight tubular shape or a conical shape. The manufacture of the opening mechanisms (22) with a tubular shape is easy. The opening mechanism (22) with a conical shape makes it possible that the steam generated by the boiling water located inside the inner container (2) penetrates easily and in a large quantity into the filling chamber (11), which allows the cooking time with steam of the rice located in the filling chamber (11) to be shortened and to improve in this manner the practical side of the electric cooker. The opening mechanism (22) with a conical shape allows the reduction of the capacity of the space enclosed by the opening mechanism, which allows the water located inside the inner container (2) to enter more readily into the inside of the filling chamber (11) and to efficiently raise the height of the water level in the filling chamber (11) in such a manner as to facilitate the soaking of the rice in the filling chamber (11) and to improve in this manner the practical side of the electric cooker.
The opening mechanism (22) is placed on the holes of the bottom cover (20).
The bottom cover (20) has a curved surface of which one side extends out in the direction opposite to the bottom wall (12) and the opening mechanism (22) is situated at the geometric center of the bottom cover (20). Therefore, when the water can flow regularly through the water passage cavity (21) due to the opening mechanism (22) in order to enter into the filling chamber (11), the water can make contact rapidly and entirely at the programed time with the rice present inside the filling chamber (11) in such a manner as to make a reliable rinsing of the rice present 14
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU in the filling chamber (11) and at the same time guarantee the constancy of the absorption of the water by the rice in the filling chamber (11).
As is indicated in figures 6 and 8, the steamer basket also comprises several reinforcements (40) which are located on the surface of the bottom cover side opposite the filling cylinder (10) and are arranged in the prolongation of the radius of the bottom cover (20). These multiple reinforcements (40) are located on both sides of the perimeter of the opening mechanism (22) and are separated by it. In this manner the structure of the bottom cover (20) can be effectively reinforced in order to avoid that the bottom cover (20), which is subjected for long times to the impact of water and of steam, deforms and therefore to extend the service life of the bottom cover (20).
The opening mechanism (22) has an axial symmetry on the orthogonal projection of the bottom wall (12). This can improve the esthetic aspect of the steamer basket and also the comfort of using the electric cooker by the user. Moreover, when the steamer basket is placed on the plane surface intended to receive it, the opening mechanism (22) reduces the contact surface between the steamer basket and the plane surface, which allows space to be saved on the surface occupied by the steamer basket and to improve the practical aspect of the steamer basket. The opening mechanism (22), which has an axial symmetry, allows the force experienced by the steamer basket to be distributed in a uniform manner, which therefore allows the stability of the steamer basket to be improved when it is placed on a plane surface.
The bottom wall (12) has a flat or curved structure. The bottom wall (12 )with a flat structure has the advantage of being easy to manufacture, which reduces the cost price of the manufacture of the steamer baskets and at the same time this guarantees that the depth of the rice located on the bottom wall (12) is the same everywhere and 15
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU therefore during the process of cooking rice with steam the rice is cooked in the same manner on the same level.
The bottom wall (12) which has a curved structure satisfies the requirements of various other users.
Concretely speaking, as concerning the curved structures of the bottom wall (12), the bottom wall (12) with a curved structure either extends out from the side facing the filling cylinder (10) or extends out from the side opposite the filling cylinder (10). The bottom wall (12) with a curved structure extending out from the side facing the filling cylinder (10) allows that the depth of the rice located on the bottom wall (12) is progressively reduced from the four edges to the center, wherein the amount of rice located at the center of the bottom wall (12) is less in such a manner that the steam will pass more readily through the rice located at the center of the bottom wall (12) and will penetrate into the space of the filling chamber (11) located above the rice layer, which will allow the rice of the upper layer located in the filling chamber to cook more readily with the steam, which will therefore improve the reliability of using the electric cooker. As the examples of applications of the figures 2, 10 and 11 indicate, since the bottom wall (12) has a curved structure extending out from the side opposite the filling cylinder (10) this allows the effective surface of the filling chamber (11) to be increased above the bottom wall (12) which increases the quantity of rice which the filling chamber (11) can contain.
In an example of application not shown in the figures, the bottom wall (12) comprises a peripheral area surrounding the central area located in the center of the bottom wall (12), with one side of the central area extending out towards the filling chamber (11), one side of the parochial area extending out in the direction opposite the central chamber, and at least a part of the central area and at least a part of the periphery of area being provided with a permeable area. In this manner, by 16
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU increasing the effective capacity of the filling chamber the steam passes more readily through the rice located on the central area of the bottom wall (12) and penetrates into the space of the filling chamber (11) located above the layer of rice, which allows the upper layer of rice located in the filling chamber (11) to be more easily cooked with the steam and the peripheral area can receive more rice. This improves the convenience of using the electric cooker.
The water passage holes (122) have a round, oval, cashew-shaped or polygonal shape; they either all have the same shape, or they mix several of these shapes. In this manner, the rational shape and size of the water passage holes (122) allow, when the water present in the inner container (2) is sent under the action of the pressure through the water passage holes (122), the rice grains with a reduced size to pass through the water passage holes (122) and to be carried away into the filling chamber (11) and, at the same time, allow avoiding that the water removes the large-size rice grains until in the inner container (2) and therefore any wasting of the rice. This improves the convenience of using the steamer basket.
In order to guarantee in the assembled structure of the steamer basket and of the inner container (2) of the present invention that the water present inside the inner container (2) enters into or correctly exits from the filling chamber (11) in such a manner that the electric cooker performs without a problem the processes of rinsing the rice, the absorption of the water by the rice, cooking the rice with the water and of steam-cooking the rice, and in order to produce an inner container (2) and a steamer basket with a rational structure, the present invention has established certain parametric restrictions relative to the dimensions of the inner container (2) and of the steamer basket which are concretely the following ones:
11082591_1 (GHMatters) P110505.AU
As figure 2 shows, the ratio of the opening surface S1 of the opening mechanism (22) and the cross-section S of the filling chamber (11) of the filling cylinder (10) is greater than or equal to 0.05 and lower than or equal to 1.5.
The ratio of the opening surface S1 of the opening mechanism (22) and the crosssection S of the filling chamber (11) of the filling cylinder (10) is greater than or equal to 0.3 and lower than or equal to 0.8.
As figure 2 shows, the ratio between the height Hl extending from the opening mechanism (22) of the bottom cover (20) of the steamer basket to the bottom of the inner container (2) and the depth H) of the inner container (2) is greater than or equal to 0.1 and lower than or equal to 0.8.
The bottom wall (12) of the filling cylinder (10) of the steamer basket has a flat or curved structure and the ratio between the height H2 extending from the opening of the opening mechanism (22) to the lowest point of the permeable area of the bottom wall (12) and the depth H of the inner container (2) is greater than or equal to 0.1 and lower than or equal to 0.8.
In an example of the application of the present invention which is not illustrated, the bottom wall (12) has a flat structure and the ratio between the distance extending from the bottom wall (12) with a flat structure to the upper edge of the inner container (2) and the depth H of the inner container (2) is greater than or equal to 0.1 and lower than or equal to 0.8.
The ratio between the height H3 extending from the lowest point of the permeable area of the bottom wall (12) with a curved surface to the upper edge of the inner container (2) and the depth H of the inner container (2) is greater than or equal to 0.1 and lower than or equal to 0.8.
