Description
AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION Standard Patent Applicant(s): Salvatore Carbone Invention Title: GYM EQUIPMENT FOR TRAINING OF CHEST, DELTOIDS, TRAPEZIUMS AND TRICEPS MUSCLES The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method for performing it known to me/us: -2 "GYM WORK-OUT EQUIPMENT FOR THE TRAINING OF THE CHEST, DELTOIDS, TRAPEZIUMS AND TRICEPS MUSCLES". TECHNICAL FIELD 5 The present invention relates to training equipment for body building of chest, deltoids, trapeziums and triceps muscles. BACKGROUND ART At present many different machines exist which allow users to train chest, 10 deltoids, trapeziums and triceps muscles, but none of them has a system which directly gives the equipment (dumb-bells etc) to the user, allowing the athlete to prepare himself to perform the exercise without any initial strain. The equipment that already exists on the market consists of a bench with a moveable backrest with fixed brackets to hold the weights. 15 Alternatively, there is equipment where the bench is used with levers, which are connected in different ways to the required weights to perform the exercise. No machine on the market has a system which directly gives the equipment to the athlete who is already seated on the bench. Before starting an exercise an athlete already seated must lift the weights and at 20 the end of the exercise, still in the same position, he must lower them. One of the many items of equipment already on the market and disclosed in EP-1-029-562-Al illustrates these disadvantages. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides gym equipment for training of chest, deltoids, 25 trapeziums and triceps muscles having an adjustable bench and arms with brackets for 1428S02_1 (GHMater) -3bearing gymnastic equipment, wherein said arms are moved horizontally by actuating means operated by the user lying on said movable bench, and in that said arms are vertically adjustable by adjusting means. In particular, the gym equipment relates to a safety system to be specifically 5 used in conjunction with weight lifting which allows a reduction in the efforts that an athlete makes both before and after the exercise thereby, reducing time, effort and the dangers of muscle strain. During exercises, using dumb-bells and bars, made on a horizontal, vertical or inclined bench, the athlete must face the problem of getting the weights and then 10 putting the weights back. When the weights get heavier, physical and mental tiredness must also be considered. Therefore there are many injuries associated with the lumbar region and with the articulation of the anus and neck. Therefore the inventor has devised a mechanism which assists the athlete to safely use the weights in controlling the actions of the machine by using his feet. 15 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Notwithstanding any forms which may fall within its scope, embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: 20 - Fig. 1 shows an overall view of an embodiment of the gym equipment in accordance with the invention - Fig. 2 shows an enlargement of an embodiment of the footrest in accordance with the invention. - Fig. 3 shows an embodiment of the air tank position in accordance with 25 the invention. 14285921 (GHMattes) -4 - Fig. 4 shows an embodiment of the hooks to hold the weights the mobile arms, and brackets in accordance with the invention. - Fig. 5 shows an embodiment of the brackets which hold the weights in accordance with the invention. 5 MODES FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION Referring to the drawings to Fig. 1, shows an overview of the gym equipment according to one. Fig 1 shows the frame (A), the moveable bench (H), the footrest (B) where the 10 command devices (C) are positioned and which holds the feet during the exercises, the safety panels (1) the mobile arms, the brackets and all the other safety elements. This embodiment uses an assist mobile system of arms (servomechanisms) used to hold the weights (bars and dumb-bells), i.e. the units (E) and (F), a bench (H) and a footrest (B) which holds the feet during the exercises. 15 The units (E) and (F), after the weights are loaded by the user through pneumatic commands or mechanical, hydraulic, electric commands, which are actuated through pedals (C) or rods, switches, push buttons. Fig. 3 shows the air tank position (D) which supplies a pneumatic circuit. The units (E) and (F) are positioned at the correct height for the exercise. 20 In use, the athlete can grasp the weights and, by activating the release device through pedals (C), the arms return to their original position so as not to interfere during the exercise. The bench (H) consists in an adjustable bench that allows the user to perform exercises with the backrest of the bench in a horizontal position for stretching and 142BS921(GHMatter) -5 pectoral exercises, upright bench for stretching over the head for deltoids, and stretching with dumb-bells for triceps. The gym equipment allows the athlete to pick up and use the weights without changing his position during the exercise, so that to reduce the efforts that, especially at 5 the end of an exercise when the athlete is tired, may often cause inflammation and personal injury, not to mention psychological stress due to muscle strain. The devices that activate the commands positioned on an adjustable footrest can move the servomechanisms, both through a pneumatic system or through a mechanical system of levers and pulleys, or through any other 10 electromechanical or electro-hydraulic system. A further feature is that the adjustable footrest has dimensions that can improve the support and the lodging of the devices that activate the commands, and such to assure the support of the feet during the exercise. Moreover the equipment presents side panels, positioned to protect the 15 mechanism itself. This can improve the safety of the athlete and passers-by, who could unintentionally come into contact with parts of the machine in movement. The side panels can also be used as support for advertising material. A further feature of the invention is the possibility of applying an electronic 20 switchboard to the commands of servomechanisms, that are able to memorize the different positions chosen by the athlete according to the type of exercises to be performed. Now that a preferred embodiment of the invention has been described it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that the gym equipment can have the following 25 advantages over the known gym equipment: 1428592_ (GHMatrs) -6 1) It may provide ergonomic comfort during the exercises, because it prevents the athlete from performing unnatural movements during the positioning of the equipment (weights) both before and after the exercise. 2) It may improve the physical safety of the athlete, because it allows the 5 weights to be moved only once at the beginning of a series of exercises, decreasing the chances of injuries. 3) In addition it may improve the physical safety of the athlete, because the raising and the lowering of the dumb-bells from and to the floor, both at the beginning and at the end of an exercise, in particular when the athlete is in a 10 horizontal position, means that the muscles are stretched in an unnatural way, often causing inflammation or swelling. 4) It can allow the athlete to enjoy the equipment, because there is no need for a second person to help the athlete raise and lower the weights. 5) It can avoid blood pressure problems, often caused by excessive efforts, 15 especially at the end of the exercise. 6) It can avoid wasting physical energy, which can be used for the following exercises. 7) It can allow an easy movement of the telescopic arms through foot commands which allow the athlete to stay in the same position for the whole 20 exercise. Furthermore, it is possible to position any type of dumb-bell or weight onto the telescopic arms with the universal brackets which hold the weights. The advantages previously described can be clearly seen in the annexed drawings. 1428592_1 (GHMatters) -7 In the claims which follow and in the preceding description of the invention, except where the context requires otherwise due to express language or necessary implication, the word "comprise" or variations such as "comprises" or "comprising" is used in an inclusive sense, i.e. to specify the presence of the stated features but not to 5 preclude the presence or addition of further features in various embodiments of the invention. It is to be understood that, if any prior art information is referred to herein, such reference does not constitute an admission that the information forms a part of the common general knowledge in the art, in Australia or any other country. 14285921 (GHMatters)
