Description

-2 A furniture hinge The present invention relates to a furniture hinge. 5 A furniture hinge is known from EP 1555372, in which a hinge part is pivotably held on the side part. For this purpose, a support lever and a guide lever are provided which in the manner of a parallel control arm pivot the hinge part fastened 10 to a movable furniture part such as a furniture door. For damping the movement, a linear damper is provided on the side part which is coupled via a chain link with a projection on the guide lever. Damping thus occurs during the pivoting of the guide lever. The coupling is provided with a rigid 15 configuration, so that a limited compensation for tolerances is possible, especially when a furniture door is aligned and the hinge part is adjusted relative to the side part or a mounting plate. Moreover, the coupling via chain links is relatively complex and difficult to mount. 20 It is therefore the object of embodiments of the present invention to provide a furniture hinge which is flexible for the compensation for tolerances and can be easily mounted. 25 The invention provides a furniture hinge, comprising a mounting plate on which a side part is arranged, and a hinge part mounted pivotably on the side part via a support lever and a guide lever, with a damper being provided to dampen the movement of the hinge part relative to the side part, whereby a 30 slide having a tip is mounted on the side part, which slide rests on a contact surface on the damper and produces a coupling between the damper on the one hand and the support lever, guide lever or the hinge part on the other hand, and wherein the slide is movable by a web of the support lever acting on the tip. 35 N.\Melbourne\Case\Patent\80000-80999\P80171.AU\Specis\P8171.AUCH spec first.doc 10/03/09 -3 Advantageously, the slide thus forms an intermediate member which is not coupled at opposite ends in a rigid manner with the damper via an axle connection, but can merely be applied to a sliding surface which is connected with the damper 5 either directly or indirectly. As a result, the furniture hinge is thus provided with a simple arrangement because the slide is held with only one guide means on the side part. Moreover, there can also be a certain compensation for tolerances during mounting because a transmission of forces only occurs via the 10 contact surface and there is no rigid connection. Further, as the slide is movable by a web of the support lever acting on the tip of the slide, so that the pivoting movement of the support lever leads to a linear movement of the slide and the damper. 15 According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the slide is displaceably held on the side part via guide means. The slide can be linearly movable in the same direction as the piston rod of the damper, so that no lateral forces occur during a transmission of forces. 20 In order to limit the range of movement, the slide can be displaceably held between two stops, with the range of movement being arranged in such a way that damping is caused only in the desired range, mostly shortly before a closing position of the 25 hinge part. In order to produce the furniture hinge from only very few components, the slide can comprise an end section which rests directly on a housing of the damper. 30 For guiding the movement of the slide, it can comprise an oblong hole in which a pin engages. In addition to the guide means, the oblong hole then also forms opposite stops for limiting the path of displacement. N,\Melbourne\Cases\Patent\80000-80999\P80171.AU\Specia\P80171.AUGH opec first.doc 10/03/09 -4 The damper is preferably arranged as a linear damper and held in a pretensioned manner relative to the slide by a spring, so that when the hinge part is opened the spring will press the 5 damper or the housing of the damper to an extended position. The force of the spring acting upon the damper is lower than a spring which pretensions the hinge part to the closed position. The side part can comprise a pivoting flap for simple 10 mounting, to which the damper is fastened. The damper can then be fastened in a simple manner to the flap by latching means or other fastening elements. The invention is now explained in closer detail by 15 reference to an embodiment shown in the drawings, wherein: Fig. 1 shows a sectional side view of a furniture hinge in accordance with the invention in the opened position; Fig. 2 shows a view of the furniture hinge of Fig. 1 with a half-opened position of the hinge part; 20 Fig. 3 shows a view of the furniture hinge of Fig. 1 with closed position of the hinge part, and Fig. 4 shows a view of the furniture hinge of Fig. 1 during mounting. 25 A furniture hinge 1 made of metal and/or plastic comprises a mounting plate 2 which can be fixed to a furniture carcass, on which a side part 3 is mounted in fixed or adjustable way. A pot-like hinge part 4 is held in a pivotable manner on the side part 3, with a support lever 5 and a guide lever 6 being 30 provided for a pivoting movement. The support lever 5 is connected via an axis 7 with the hinge part 4 and articulated via an axis 8 on the side part 3. The guide lever 6 is rotatably held via an axis 9 on the hinge part 4 and via an axis 10 on the side part 3. The hinge part 4 can be fixed to a recess of a 35 furniture door. N:\Melbourne\Casee\Patent\80000-80999\P80171.AU\Specie\PS0171.AUGH spec first.doc 10/03/09 - 5 A web 11 is integrally arranged on the support lever 5, which web can come into contact with a bent tip 19 of a linearly movable slide 12. The slide 12 is held on the side part 3 via guide means. For this purpose, an oblong hole 18 has been left 5 open in the slide 12, into which a pin 17 engages which is fixed to side part 3. Slide 12 comprises an end section 13 on the side opposite of tip 19, which end section acts upon a face surface of a 10 housing 14 of a damper in the side part 3. The damper is arranged as a linear damper which comprises a piston rod 15 which is displaceable into housing 14. The damper can be arranged as a fluid damper or gas-pressure damper. 15 The housing 14 of the damper is held on a flap 20 of side part 3 which is pivotable about an axis 22 and on which a stop 21 is formed. One end of piston rod 15 and one end of a spring 16 which is supported on the opposite side on the housing 14 rest on stop 21. Housing 14 is thus pretensioned in one 20 direction towards the slide 12. Fig. 1 shows the furniture hinge 1 in an opened position, in which a component such as a furniture door which is connected to the hinge part 4 is opened. 25 In Fig. 2, the hinge part 4 was pivoted in a direction towards a closed position, with an angle between the indicated position and a closing position being approximately 450*. In the pivoting movement of the hinge part 4, the support lever 5 and 30 the guide lever 6 were also pivoted, with the projection 11 of the support lever 5 pressing on the slide 12, which then presses the piston rod 15 into the housing 16 of the damper. Fig. 3 shows the closed position of the hinge part 4. The 35 hinge part 4 is pretensioned via a spring to the closed N.\Melbourne\Caoe\Patent\80000-60999\PO0171.AU\Specis\P80171.AUGH spec first.doc 10/03/09 -6 position, with the force of this spring being larger than the force of spring 16. When the hinge part 4 is opened, the housing 14 of the 5 damper moves through the force of the spring 16 and presses the slide 12 until the pin 17 reaches the end of the oblong hole 18. Fig. 4 shows the mounting position of the furniture hinge 1, in which the flap 20 is shown in the opened position. In this 10 way, the damper with the housing 14, piston rod 15 and spring 16 can be fastened easily to the side part 3. Flap 20 is held on side part 3 in a pivoting manner about axis 22. Side part 3 can be held in a movable way relative to the 15 mounting plate 2 via suitable adjusting means. The length of the damping path is limited by the oblong hole 18, which is chosen in such a way that damping occurs only shortly before the closed position of the hinge part 4. 20 When flap 20 is opened, the slide 12 can be mounted in an especially simple way, which is fixed via an axis 13 to side part 3. In the claims which follow and in the preceding 25 description of the invention, except where the context requires otherwise due to express language or necessary implication, the word "comprise" or variations such as "comprises" or "comprising" is used in an inclusive sense, i.e. to specify the presence of the stated features but not to preclude the presence 30 or addition of further features in various embodiments of the invention.
