O This invention represents an improved method of extracting V coconut flesh whilst utilizing the natural shape of the coconut shell as a bowl.
VCoconut flesh is an important ingredient in human and animal diet used directly, and in the forms of copra meal, desiccated grated O coconut kernel, coconut cream or coconut oil.

2Many people enjoy freshly shredded coconut but can not easily obtain it. Removing the coconut kernel from its shell is a problem.
There are various ways to extract coconut kernel commercially and domestically. Domestic applications traditionally employ a flat toothed scraper attached to a board or stool, which a person sits on and scrapes a coconut half shell over. Another way is for the operator to rotate a conical cluster of metal blades either by hand or motor driven. Both of these ways shred the coconut out of the shell and into a collecting bowl below. Both ways have the coconut shell opening facing away from the view of the operator making it impossible to see how deep the shredder has cut into the flesh. This process is slowed down because the operator has to stop shredding repeatedly to check the depth of remaining kernel so as not to scrape into the "testa" layer and subsequent coconut shell. Another limitation of existing coconut shredders are they do not cater for different stages of kernel maturity. They are designed for fully mature hardened coconut kernel and less effective on the tastier, soft and rubbery, immature coconut kernel.
The present invention overcomes these inadequacies by providing a means to shred coconut kernel of varying hardness (maturity) o directly while viewing into the coconut half shell, driven by a r common, portable, rechargeable battery drill and retaining the coconut shreddings in the coconut's shell. After shredding, the coconut flesh is then able to be eaten directly, squeezed into .coconut tr cream or pressed into oil. This invention has been specially devised in order to provide an improved coconut shredder which is portable, quick, easy and effective, creaming the coconut flesh as it shreds.
10 The Cordless Coconut Shredder preferably comprises a flat disc with wedge shaped teeth attached to a perpendicular, centrally ci located, 6 mm by 150 mm shaft which may be welded on, or, threaded into it. The cutting disc is ideally constructed from a 5 mm food grade sheet metal, or glass, or a composite material with an attached metal shaft. Other materials could also be used. The cutting teeth are arranged in a right hand direction and can range in number from 6- 10, 8 being optimal and with a cutting face of 2- 4 mm. A disc diameter from 45- 55 mm enables a range of coconut shell sizes, and stages of kernel maturity, to be honed, grated or shredded.
The present invention utilizes-a readily available appliance (cordless drill) to drive a rotary chiseling blade, planing orbitally within the coconut hemisphere. Movement of the rotating tool, combined with the movement of the hand supporting the outside of the coconut half shell, enable the users of the invention to collect fresh, creamed coconut flesh gratings within the coconut half shell, whilst watching the process so as not to over scrape into the more bitter "testa" layer and coconut shell.
o The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of the embodiments of the invention in which:t Figure 1 is an exploded isometric view of the two part metal Cordless Coconut Shredder. The top of the shaft, point 1, is inserted into the cordless drill chuck whilst the bottom of the tt shaft, point 2, is threaded for easy attachment at point 3 of the Scutting disc, point 4.
Figure 2 is a side view of the 2 piece, metal, Cordless Coconut t Shredder. Point 1, at the top of the shaft, is inserted into a cordless drill. The thread at the bottom of the shaft, point 2, screws into the centre of the cutting disc, point 3, rotating the disc, point 4, clockwise inside the coconut half.
Figure 3 is an elevated yiew of the one piece, metal, Cordless Coconut shredding tool bit. It is cast solid, or welded, and designed to fit into the chuck of a cordless drill at point 1. The cutting disc, point 4, is inserted into the coconut half shell and rotated clockwise.
Figure 4 is a side view of the 1 piece Cordless Coconut shredding tool bit. The top of the shaft, point 1, is inserted into a cordless drill. The cutting disc, point 4, is inserted into the coconut half shell and rotated clockwise. The teeth, point 5, are cut 2-4 mm around the cutting disc.
Figure 5 is an isometric perspective, elevated view of the Cordless Coconut Shredder, incorporating a metal shaft, point 1, the top of which attaches to a cordless drill. The bottom of the shaft, point 2, is chemically welded into the centre of the glass body, point 3, which has dull teeth, point 5, cut and polished (or molded) around the disc, point 4. It is designed to rotate in a clockwise direction maneuvered in an orbit inside the coconut hemisphere for shredding the coconut flesh.
Figure 6 is a side view of Fig 5 depicting the metal shaft, point 1, and the glass cutter body, point 3.
Claims (3)
- 2. A coconut shredding device of claim 1, which gives the 10 operator a clear view into the coconut half and therefore 8control over the depth of the cut, making the shredding process quicker and eliminating the risk of digging too far into the "testa" or coconut shell.
- 3. A coconut shredding tool bit of claim 1 that caters for different stages of kernel maturity, taking advantage of the coconut flesh at all stages.
- 4. A coconut shredding tool of claim 1- 3, which is constructed from stainless steel entirely or-a combination of a glass cutting disc and a metal shaft.
