Abstract
The hair-curler has a handle (2) with a push button (6), and a heating body. The body is in a form of a worm screw known as a fixed spiral profile (1) for folding a hair strand around the hair-curler. A movable spiral profile (4) is movable with respect to a longitudinal axis of the body with the aid of the button, to compress the hair strand between the profiles, for heating the hair strand on three sides at simultaneously.
Description
WO 2004/112531 PCT/BE2004/000065 1 HEATING HAIR CURLER Field of the invention 5 [00011 The present invention relates to the area of hair styling and more specifically to a new heating hair curler with a particular coiling profile allowing to obtain locks of hair in the form of a spiral. 10 State of the art [0002] There are many portable heating hair curlers on the market which, under one form or another, are all based on the principle of coiling the hair around a heating unit. This type of device is sometimes provided with a lever for 15 pressing the hair against it and allows to maintain the lock of hair in place before and/or during coiling. [0003]. 'Some models are also provided with teeth or combs allowing to align the hair around a heating unit and to comb the lock at the same time. Regardless of the presence of. 20 a pressure lever, the hair is 'generally only heated on one side at a time. Usually, when the lock of hair is heated on only one side at a time, the heat. is not homogeneously transmitted to the entire mass of the lock of hair. Hence, this does not allow to obtain a quick result with a long 25 lasting lock in the form of a spiral. Aims of the invention [0004] The present invention aims to disclose a heating hair curler which does not have the drawbacks of the 30 state of the art and which is capable of heating the lock of hair on several sides at the same time during the compression phase of said lock in order-to make the operation quicker and to render the spiral-shaped set longer-lasting.
WO 2004/112531 PCT/BE2004/000065 2 Summary of the invention [0005] The present invention discloses a heating hair curler comprising a handle with at least one slide and at least one push button and a heating unit for setting locks of 5 hair, character-ised in that said heating unit comprises a relief shaped like a worm screw, called a fixed spiral profile, which is fixed to said heating unit, and in that said hair curler also comprises a mobile spiral profile which can be moved along the longitudinal axis of said heating unit 10 by means of said push button so as to compress the lock of hair coiled into a spiral around said hair curler between said fixed spiral and said mobile spiral and thus so as to heat said lock on at least two sides at the same time. [0006] One particular feature of the invention shows 15 that' the push button allows to compress the lock of hair coiled into a spiral around said hair curler between said fixed .-4siVl and said mobile spiral and thus allows to heat said lock on three sides at a time. [0007] One additional feature of the present invention 20 shows that the mobile spiral profile has a shape and a cross section that perfectly fit the cross-section of the fixed spiral profile so as to be able to uniformly compress the lock between said fixed and mobile spiral profiles. [0008] One additional feature of the present invention 25 shows that the mobile spiral profile has exactly the same screw pitch as said fixed spiral profile and that, in the closed position, said spirals perfectly fit together. [0009] According to one preferred embodiment of the invention, the mobile spiral profile has an essentially 30 square or rectangular cross-section. [0010] According to one particular embodiment of the device of the invention, the mobile slide allows to maintain the end of the lock so as to allow it to be coiled into a spiral around the heating unit.
WO 2004/112531 PCT/BE2004/000065 3 [0011) Still according to the invention, the push button can push said mobile spiral profile against said fixed spiral profile in order to trap the lock of hair between said mobile and fixed spiral profiles. 5 [00121 Finally, the present invention discloses a mobile spiral profile preferably made out of a material that is a good heat conductor. Brief description of the figures 10 [00131 Figure 1 shows a front view and a view in longitudinal section of the heating hair curler according to the invention with its fixed spiral profile 1 and its mobile spiral profile 4. [00141 Figure 2 shows a perspective view of the 15 heating hair curler according to the invention with the mobile spiral profile 4 (grey) held close to the fixed spiral profile 1*'(white), i.e. in a completely closed position. [0015] Figure 3 shows the starting position for coiling the hair into a spiral around the heating curler 20 according to the- invention, wherein the lock of hair is first gripped by means of the slide 5 by pulling it backwards. [0016] Figure 4 shows the lock of hair completely coiled into a spiral around the heating hair curler according to the invention before its compression between the mobile 25 spiral profile 4 and the fixed spiral profile 1. [00171 Figure 5 shows the hair completely coiled into a spiral around the heating hair curler according to the invention in the position for compressing the lock 7 by means of the push button 9 which is pressed down- with the thumb. 30 [0018] Figure 6 shows the shape of a lock of hair 7 shaped by the hair curler according to the invention.
WO 2004/112531 PCT/BE2004/000065 4 Detailed description of the invention [00191 The heating hair curler according to the present invention comprises a heating unit of essentially cylindrical shape with a heating resistance inside and with a 5 relief in the form of a worm screw fixed to said heating unit which shall be called the fixed spiral profile or fixed spiral 1. [00201 Said heating hair curler also comprises a mobile spiral profile 4 with a square or rectangular cross 10 section in the form of a worm screw of the same pitch and the same height as the relief of the worm screw fixed to the heating unit, i.e. of the fixed spiral profile 1. [0021] As for terminology, we shall indiscriminately speak of a fixed spiral or of a fixed spiral profile as well 15 as of a mobile spiral or of a mobile spiral profile. [00221 It is very important for the pitches and the cross-sectb6ns of the fixed and mobile spiral profiles to be substantially identical so as to allow even pressure on the lock of hair and close contact between the mobile part and 20 the fixed part, in particular in order to ensure effective heating of the mobile part by the fixed part. The mobile spiral thus perfectly fits the fixed spiral attached to the heating unit. [00231 The mobile spiral profile 4 can slide back and 25 forth on the heating unit along the axis of the latter in order to allow' the lock of hair to be trapped between the mobile spiral and the fixed spiral. [00241 A slide 5, located on the handle 2 of the hair curler, allows the end of the lock 7 to be gripped before it 30 is coiled around the hair curler according to the invention (see Figs. 1 & 3) . A button 6 then allows to compress the lock between the mobile spiral profil-e 4 and the fixed spiral profile 1 (see Fig. 5) . The slide 5 and the push button 6 are provided with release springs 11 and 10, respectively, which WO 2004/112531 PCT/BE2004/000065 5 allow the various mobile elements to return to their original positions. [00251 To the. extent that the hair is coiled around the heating tube in the hole of the pitch formed by the 5 mobile and fixed spiral profiles, it is heated on three sides at the same time when it is trapped between the mobile spiral profile 4 and the fixed spiral profile 1. This feature very clearly distinguishes the heating hair curler of the present invention from the heating tongs according to the state of 10 the art, which generally only allow the hair to be heated on one side at a time. Key 1. Heating unit provided with a relief in the form of a worm screw, called a fixed spiral profile 15 2. Handle of the heating hair curler 3. Heating resistance inside the heating unit 4. Mobild*spiral with an essentially square or rectangular cross-section 5. Slide for gripping the lock of hair 20 6. Push button for moving the mobile spiral profile along the heating unit 7. Lock of hair 8. Cable for the electrical supply of the heating resistance 9. Relief in the form of a worm screw with fixed and mobile 25 spiral profiles in contact with each other 10. Release spring for the push button 11. Release spring for the slide
