Abstract
The reactor, for the anaerobic biological treatment of sewage and industrial effluent, has two gas separation units (1,3) spaced apart. A rising pipe (6) leads off the bio-gas separated at both units, passing into the pipe through openings (7). The diameter of the rising pipe is set to avoid air-lift pump effects. The separation units have gas separators (16), radially to the rising pipe, and at an angle to the pipe of at most90degrees. The rising pipe has openings under the first gas separation unit, for the biomass to pass into the reactor zone, and its upper end is surrounded by an immersed wall (9) to separate floating sludge.
