22/68/03 15:22 FAX 61+7+55262509 11canus Group J11 0 ROOF CLEAT POSITJONER MASONRY BLOCK CONSTRUCTION For many years the 'bond-beam' In masonry block construction has consisted of the top two or three courses of a block wall filled with solid re-enforced concrete to provide a load-bearing strong structure upon which roof-trusses can be loaded.
In order to provide a tie down for these trusses which prevents the roof being blown off by cyclonic weather a tie down cleat (one per truss) is threaded over the re-enforced and allowed to protrude above the level of the concrete after It has been poured, It is to these cleats that the roof trusses are bolted.
This Invention has been specially devised in order to provide a simple, cheap, effective and re-usable method of holding these cleats in a desired position vertical) while the concrete is being poured and Is curing.
The roof cleat positloner is preferably made of 3.5mm thick plastic, however other materials such as flexible thin gauze sheet metal can be used.
The Invention may be better understood with reference to the Illustrations of the invention which figure 1 Is an elevation of roof cleat position showing a slot down the centre which slides over the roof cleat. The length of the roof cleat position Is longer by approximately than the Internal width of the concrete masonry block.
Figure 2 shows the 'roof cleat positloner' slotting over the cleat and Its flexibility wedges It between the walls of the masonry block.
Figure 3 This invention now enables the concrete to be poured and the roof cleats to remain firmly held In a vertical position required for attachment to trusses.

Claims (4)
1. A cleat positioner having 5mm slot down the centre
2. The length, being 5mm longer than the Internal width of a standard masonry block creates a tension holding the positioner firmly In between the masonry block walls.
3. The deat slots into the positioner and threads over the re- enfordng rod.
4. Concrete can now be poured and deat will stay vertical. 3 COMS ID No: SMBI-00388170 Received by IP Australia: Time 15:35 Date 2003-08-22 I
