Description

SECURE OVERLAND TUNNEL CARRIAGEWAY The current method of installing power and data transmission cables in open spaces is either on overhead poles and towers or underground. Both these methods of installation create signification but different environmental impacts. The use of the secure overland tunnel carriageway minimises the environmental impact from the installation of power and data transmission cables in open spaces. This invention the secure overland tunnel carriageway has been specially devised to provide a new method for the installation of power and data transmission cables in open spaces.
The secure overland tunnel carriageway of this invention is comprised of a base, that has a number of troughs for holding the installed power and data transmission cables as well as cross-sectional drainage holes to allow the passage of surface water, and a roof with a curved surface which facilitates the passage of vehicles, which are secured together with locking bolts.
To provide a secure base for the power and data transmission cable each section of the secure overland tunnel carriage is locked to its neighbour via a keyway.
To provide additional protection to the transmission cables it is preferred that the secure overland tunnel carriageway be constructed from high impact and fire resistant material.
Additional power and data transmission cables can be installed without disturbing the existing installation by adding a cable expansion section on top of the base.
In one form of the invention, the secure overland tunnel carriageway will be made from lightweight high strength concrete.
To assist with the understanding of the invention, reference will be made to the accompanying drawings which show one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is an isometric view of the secure overland tunnel carriageway.
Figure 2 is a cross-section of the secure overland tunnel carriageway.
Figure 3 is a cross-section including the cable expansion section.
With reference to Figure 1 and Figure 2 it can be seen that the base 1 has troughs 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 for holding either power or data transmission cables. The curved surface of the roof 7 together with the interlocking keyways 8, 9 are also shown. A crosssectional drainage hole 10 is shown in Figure 1 while the locking bolts 11, 12 are shown in Figure 2. The cable expansion section 13 is shown in Figure 3 with the additional cable troughs.

Claims (6)

1. The secure overland tunnel carriageway is comprised of a base, that has a number of troughs for holding the installed power and data transmission cables as well as cross-sectional drainage holes to allow the passage of surface water, and a roof with a curved surface which facilitates the passage of vehicles, which are secured together with locking bolts.
2. Each secure overland tunnel carriageway section of claim 1 can be locked to its neighbour via a keyway.
3. The cable carrying capacity of the secure overland tunnel carriageway section of claim 1 can be expanded through the use of an expansion section.
4. The secure overland tunnel carriageway can according to any claims 1, 2 and 3 wherein the base, roof and expansion section are made from high impact and fire resistant material.
The secure overland tunnel carriageway can according to any claims 1, 2, 3 and 4 wherein the base, roof and expansion section are made from lightweight high strength concrete.
6. A secure overland tunnel carriageway can substantially as herein before described with reference to figures 1, 2 and 3 of the accompanying drawings. AACE WORLDWIDE PTY LTD 31 JULY 2003 ABN 28 054 961 205
