Abstract

A method of manufacturing a photochromic molded article which comprises the steps of:filling a mold with a photopolymerizable monomer composition containing a photopolymerizable monomer, a photoinitiator and a photochromic compound capable of coloring upon UV irradiation;pre-heating the composition to a temperature which reduces or prevents coloration of the photochromic compound during the subsequent photopolymerization step; andphotopolymerizing the composition under irradiation with a light comprising a UV portion and a UV-visible portion.
