Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and a device for measurement of a diameter of cylindrical objects (2) with a longitudinal axis from a distance. A method according to the present invention, comprises the following steps: generating an illuminated line of intersection (10) with the substantially cylindrical object (2) by a light source (6), the illuminated line of intersection (10) being substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, capturing an image of this line of intersection (10) by means of a camera (12), the optical axis (15) of which is oriented towards the object and is inclined with respect to the illuminated line of intersection (10), the image having two extremities corresponding to the extremities of the line of intersection (10) with the substantially cylindrical object (2), and calculating the diameter of the substantially cylindrical object (2) based on the image, the calculation being based on the supposition that the projections from the camera towards the extremities are tangents to the substantially cylindrical object (2). A device according to the present invention comprises corresponding elements.
