Abstract

The invention uses piston shoes (502, 119) or conical ring elements (1, 2, 11, 12, 307) in pump or motor engines (7, 48, 340). Formed within the conical part (1, 2, 11, 12, 307) of the element is a working chamber (14, 61, 311) through which fluid flows and to which are assigned inlet means (50) and outlet means (49) which, under the control of a driving arrangement (52, 55, 96, 97) acting via reciprocating pistons (94), periodically enlarges and reduces its volume. It is thereby possible to achieve the change in the volume of a working chamber without sealing pistons moved in cylinders, to avoid any sealing by sealing parts sliding against one another without lubrication and thereby to make it possible for the working chamber to be filled and operate under high pressure with a non-lubricating fluid, for example water. The driving arrangement is separated from the working chamber by means of the reciprocating piston and can be operated using a fluid having a lubricating effect. The details can be designed in such a way that pressures of over 1000 bar can be used efficiently with a non-lubricating fluid in the working chamber.
