Abstract
The process centres a pilot (11) which is inserted into a valve guide (25) of a valve seat (24) to be machined and serves therein as a pilot arbor (11) for a form turning tool. The pilot (11), mounted by means of a pivot ball (7) so as to be pivotable on all sides between two clamping shells (6) and displaceably held by the latter between two clamping plates (5), is centred in the valve guide (25) by electronically controlled drive means. For this purpose, it is moved by the drive means by horizontal displacement of the clamping shells (6) in two intersecting directions. The clamping shells (6) are moved one after the other into their two end positions of their displacement range. The displacement path in between is measured electronically. The drive means accordingly move the clamping shells (6) into the electronically calculated centre position of the two measured displacement ranges.
