Abstract

In a weapon barrel having a protective layer (4) on at least a partial region (3) of its internal surface (2), the protective layer is produced by cold spraying. An independent claim is included for a method for coating at least a partial region of the internal surface of a weapon barrel by applying the coating material to the surface by cold spraying, in which: a Laval nozzle located in the internal cavity of the barrel accelerates a gas to supersonic speed; powdered coating material is injected into the gas jet before the nozzle; the powder is accelerated together with the gas onto the surface to be coated; and the apparatus is moved relative to the barrel, so that a flat coating is obtained.
