Abstract

The invention relates to a refractory component consisting of a ceramic material. Said component has a contact side of the ceramic material that is oriented towards a melted mass and on which a boundary layer in contact with the melted mass is formed during assembly and operation. As a result of a specific resistance which decreases as the temperature increases, said boundary layer is electroconductive with the changing operating temperature thereon. At least one electrode is arranged in the ceramic material, in the boundary region between said conductive boundary layer and the region of the ceramic material adjacent to the same, said electrode extending at a distance from the melted mass contact surface, at least along a section of the same. During operation, a potential for generating an electrical field penetrating the ceramic material is applied to the at least one electrode and/or the melted mass, preventing penetration or deposition of the molten slag and/or the melted mass over the section of the melted mass contact surface.
