Abstract

1. Device for feeding a machine with rigid elements having the shape of rods, comprising a hopper (1) arranged for containing a stack of parallel rods (3), a movable receptacle (7) intended to receive packages each containing a set of rods (3) arranged in order parallel to one another, said receptacle (7) being borne by a rig (27, 28, 30) movable in height, receptacle-driving means (33, 32, 34) capable of placing it above said stack of rods, actuating components (24, 26) capable of driving said movable rig (27, 28, 30) so that the receptacle (7) in maintained at a height greater than that of the stack and is brought into a loading position situated immediately above the stack when the level of the latter reaches a pre-established minimum value, an extensible guide mechanism (15, 14, 17) which is movable in height for containing the rods of said stack and independent of the movable rig of the receptacle, detection and actuation means (42) for controlling positionning of the receptacle and ensuring the emptying of the package into the hopper when the level of the stack reaches said pre-established minimum value, and a stack-level detector (20) integral with the guide mechanism (15, 14, 17), characterized in that the guide mechanism (15, 14, 17) comprises its own driving means which are independent of the actuating components (24, 26) of the movable rig (27, 28, 30), in that the detector (20) integral with the guide mechanism (15, 14, 17) acts upon the driving means of this mechanism so as to bring it automatically to a height such that it contains the stack of rods (3) in the hopper (1) up to its upper level, and in that the actuating components (24, 26) of the movable rig (27, 28, 30) are controlled by at least one other detector (43) of the stack level of the rods in the hopper (1).
