Abstract

A method of controlling a liquid crystal display device (8) is described. The liquid crystal display device (8) has a data storage means (32,36) for storing data to be displayed by said device (8), and display means for displaying said data. The method comprises the steps of: (a) generating (130) first data to be displayed by said device (8); (b) applying (132) said first data to said data storage means (32,36); (c) applying (134) said first data in said data storage device (32,36) to said display means for displaying thereby, and (d) at a predetermined time, generating and applying (128) reset command data to said data storage means (32,36). By applying reset command data, the liquid crystal display device (8) becomes unlatched and then continues to function normally, so that the problem of latch up induced by electrostatic discharge is overcome. <IMAGE>
