Abstract

The engine has a cooling water heat accumulator, and exhaust gas return with exhaust cooled by an exhaust heat exchanger. Th heat accumulator (2) and the exhaust heat exchanger (4) are combined in an accumulator heat exchanger (1) for exhaust to be retu to the combustion process. The cooling water acts as cooling medium for the exhaust heat exchanger. A valve (3) positioned in fr of the heat accumulator feeds cooling water coming from a cooling water outlet (12) of the engine (11), into a cooling water int (13) of the heat accumulator, or into a cooling water bypass (6) around the accumulator heat exchanger.
