Abstract

A gas fire assembly 10 comprises a burner assembly 12 and a substantially closed burning space thereabove, defined between front and rear panels 16, 18. The rear panel 18 may be constructed from a material with a low thermal mass, for example ceramic fibre, and comprise a plurality of substantially vertically extending ribs to provide it with a high surface area. The front panel 16 may be translucent and tinted red, being formed from ceramic glass to transmit a high proportion of infrared heat. The front and rear panels 16, 18 may taper towards each other away from burner assembly 12, thereby narrowing the burner space.
