Abstract
The arc extinction method uses a gas stream (gas blast) directed transverse to the longitudinal direction of the arc (6) from all sides of the latter, over the full length (L) of the arc. The gas stream is provided by an extinction gas provided by an insulation material of the spark path, e.g. an insulating coating applied to the inside wall of a cylindrical arc chamber (5) with electrodes at its opposite ends.
