Abstract

The process ignites a gas-air mixture in a blast furnace (1), and has a gas supply which is applied to an airstream after a pre-ventilation phase, and after a subsequent reduction of the normal operating air pressure through a control valve (2). The rising pressure during the pre-ventilation phase causes a delayed lowering of the reduced normal operating air pressure of the furnace. During the lowering phase a quantity of gas is supplied to the air, which is larger than normal. A device to perform this process, and in which an aperture (7) is arranged in a control pressure pipe (6) from the air supply pipe (3) to the control valve, is also discussed.
