Abstract

The feed mechanism for longitudinal wires (1) on a grid welding machine includes a driven roll (2) and an opposing pressure roll (4) which is installed so that from a rest position it can be brought into the working position against the wire (1). The mechanism is characterised by the following facts: (a) the pressure roll (4) is driven by an additional driven roll (3); and (b) the pressure roll in its working position is in contact with both the roll (3) and the wire (1). The pressure roll (4) is mounted with free pivot capability on a cantilever arm (7) which is rotatable about a point (8) by means of a hydraulic, pneumatic or similar mechanism (10) to bring the roll into either its rest or working position. Both the first driven roll (2) and the pressure roll (4) have smooth surfaces. In the working position of the roll (4), the magnitude of the pressure vector between the rolls (3) and (4) is greater than that of the pressure vector between the roll (4) and the wire (1). <IMAGE>
