Abstract
1. A process for automating a low pressure-type casting cycle of a metal in a closed mould, consisting of : - acting on an intensive single action variable, that is the pressure of the backflow fluid of the molten metal contained in the furnace in order to subject the metal to a cycle of variations of level and pressure, which cycle is divided into phases, is started when the metal passes the bottom of the mould by means of a presence sensor which serves to determine the reference pressure in the furnace at the start of the cycle which ends on completion of the decompression of the furnace, the said process being characterised in that : - after a preliminary preparation stage consisting of : a) dividing the said cycle into a particular number of successive phases, each phase corresponding, as a function of the shape of the part to be obtained and the desired metallurgical quality, to the determined conditions of time and value of the speed and/or pressure of the metal, b) and determining, for each of these phases, from the conditions to be applied to the metal, those to be applied to the pressure of the backflow fluid, - the pressure of the backflow fluid is continuously controlled during casting with a view to obtaining the characteristics desired for the metal in each phase, by dividing the duration of each phase into successive elementary steps, by effecting, at each step, a comparison between the real value of the said fluid pressure and the corresponding predetermined value in the said preliminary stage and by raising or reducing the real pressure of the fluid accordingly.
