The installation is characterised by the combination of the following features: - a feeding apparatus, which feeds a stack of skirted caps or the like in the forward direction and secures the stack under the action of an axial force, - an isolating apparatus, with one or more heads, for isolating the individual skirted caps from the stack, - an apparatus for transferring and conveying the isolated skirted caps to a feeding container or intermediate store, - an apparatus for applying and feeding the skirted caps to the containers, - a control device for carrying out an automatic operating cycle of the installation such that the containers, which are passed through by a feeding mechanism (band) and whose feed rate determines the operating sequence of the installation, lift off from the isolated skirted caps in each case those intended for the respective container. <IMAGE>
