Propulsion of vehicles with mixed propulsion is used. The unit is designed and switched in such a way that it allows the torques and transmission ratios required for the respective driving state of the vehicle to be achieved automatically in a reliable manner.
The electrical machine set assembled in block form with the internal combustion engine is designed in this way. that the electrical parts, which are mainly used for variable power transmission, also take on the function of the lighting system, starting system for the internal combustion engine, the flywheel, the primary power generation for the ignition, the clutch, the brake and, according to the invention, also that of the freewheel, in a manner known per se Induction (switching) and

The transmission of the torque from the driving hollow shaft 4 to the drive shaft 10 takes place through a hammer head 11 of the drive shaft 10, shown separately in FIG. 2, which has rollers 17 movable in ball bearings at both ends in two opposite recesses delimited by a corresponding curve 12 13 of the hollow shaft 4 engages.
In the rest position, the mutual position of hammer head and curve shown in Fig. 1,

If the hollow shaft 4 is now set in rotation by the motor drive, the hammer head 11 will move along the curve 12 until the component of the contact pressure of the spiral spring 15, which is tangential with respect to the shaft, which is caused by the solenoid effect during rotation

The automatic torque control also achieves a shock-free clutch and keeps the vehicle away from the unit.
Due to the conical design of the air gap of the two machines, whose armature cones have mutually facing base surfaces, the air gap and thus the magnetic resistance of one machine when the armature hollow shaft 4 is displaced longitudinally

Since the magnetic force of the rotating machines on the movable armature core is added to the spring tension force in one direction of rotation and subtracted in the other, the required state of equilibrium of the circumferential forces of the two shafts 4 and 10 is achieved with the same armature displacement according to the law of the curve.

The travel switch according to FIGS. 3a and 3b is operated by a hand lever and allows the individual circuits (starting, forward travel, reverse travel, zero position and brake) to be produced by moving the hand lever, as in the description of the Circuit designs will be described in detail later. Each brush holder has a recess 30 or a shoulder or the like for attacking the pin 24 of the hand lever, which by tilting to the left or right (with reference to FIG. 3b) comes into engagement with one or another brush holder, which then leads through (with Referring to Fig. 3a) tilting left and right one or the other contact group is switched on. The four different shifts achieved in this way correspond to the four aggregate functions: starting, driving forward, driving backward and braking. To regulate the individual circuits, the hand.

According to FIG. 3a, the locking is effected by a hollow cylinder 35 articulated to the switching lever by means of pin 36, the lower edge of which has a recess for each brush holder 26 (not visible in FIG. 3a) through which the brush holders with their stops. 37 can only be passed through in the specific short-circuit position of the shift lever 21 and accordingly switched.

Internal combustion engine on the drive shaft 10 both when driving forwards a) s as well as when reversing, on the other hand to arbitrarily interrupt the power transmission from the vehicle to the dynamo-electric unit at any time (brake).

but rather the hammer head 11 remaining behind by rolling on the curve towards the point. 14 approaches and thus changes the air gap of the two electrical machines. By reducing the magnetic resistance of the motor, its number of revolutions and the increased current due to the increased load are reduced. At the same time will. durch'die enlarging the air gap of the generator, weakening its field and reducing the torque required for a specific current, so that the most favorable torque to be output by the internal combustion engine is automatically retained.
By turning the hand lever 21 about its longitudinal axis, the resistor connected to the generator field is switched off and that for the motor field is switched on (FIG. 4d), whereby a further increase in tour is achieved. Once the vehicle has reached its maximum travel speed, the electric motor is switched off from the unit by turning the hand lever around its longitudinal axis, so that the brushes 31, 32 interrupt the conductive connection of the segments 61, 62 and establish those with 61, 84 (Fig . 4 d, drawn dotted).
After switching off the electric motor, the armature of the generator then works with its field as a dynamo-electric clutch, while the motor, whose armature is further driven by shaft 10, with the aid of a, in a known manner

gives a constant voltage for charging the battery A, which battery is used for lighting the car and igniting the internal combustion engine. The reverse travel (Fig. 4e) is achieved by reversing the direction of rotation of the electric motor by changing the pole while at the same time weakening the field of the generator.
The machine set is regulated in the same way by means of curve 12, only its curvature is expediently chosen to be flatter in the half that is considered for the return journey. The braking position of the hand lever shown in FIGS. 4f and 4g reverses both the polarity of the motor field and that of the generator field, so that the motor M begins to work as a generator and the generator G as a motor, in such a way that the “vom Energy transmitted to the vehicle (downhill or braking) is transferred electrically to the internal combustion engine, with the idling work of the internal combustion engine and the electrical transmission losses representing the braking resistances,
which can be increased or changed by switching on resistors by turning the hand lever around its longitudinal axis. "Finally, the function of the freewheel can also be achieved with the unit in the simplest way.
In the known motor vehicles, this unnecessarily increases the fuel consumption. that gas must be constantly supplied, especially when driving in terrain with changing slopes,
