Switch for high instantaneous currents.
The large instantaneous currents, which occur particularly in the event of short circuits in large networks, cause electrodynamic and thermal forces at the contacts of the switches in the circuit, which try to set the switch contacts apart. These forces are particularly harmful when switching on an existing short circuit because they then occur before the switch is latched in the switched-on position. In this case it happens that an arc is drawn on the contacts after the first touch, which overstresses the switch.
In order to cancel or reduce these electrodynamic and thermal repulsive forces at the holder contacts, according to the invention, special conductor structures, for example coils, are to be arranged within the switch and switched in such a way that the movable contacts are pressed against the fixed contacts by electrodynamic forces.
An exemplary embodiment is shown in FIG. 1. Here: a the terminals of the switch, b the fixed contacts, c the movable contacts, d a crossbeam which carries the movable contacts, e the

A structurally particularly favorable embodiment of the invention results when the two
Contacts of a contact pair are connected to two coils wound in the same direction. An exemplary embodiment for this is shown in FIG. 3. The contacts bund c are assumed to be ring-shaped here and are connected to two coils i and k which are wound in the same direction and consequently attract each other. The ring contacts can be slotted to avoid short-circuit turns.
The magnetic field of the conductor parts, which causes the electrodynamic pressure of the moving contacts on the fixed ones, can in most cases be strengthened by the installation of iron. For example, in FIGS. 1 and 2, the coils g could have iron cores which would have to contain an air gap in the plane of the conductors f (the plane of the drawing). A particularly strong magnetic field would arise in this air gap and the conductors t would move in this field. In the example of FIG. 3, too, the magnetic field could be reinforced by the iron core inside the coils, possibly also by bell-shaped iron jackets outside the coils.
