Process for the production of a dye for painting purposes.
It is known to produce white paint containing antimony, among other things, by collecting the vapors consisting of antimony oxide and sulfur oxide, which are formed during the oxidative roasting of sulfur antimony and consisting of antimony oxide and sulfur oxide, in a solution or suspension of calcium hydroxide, whereupon one

new, in which the impure antimony oxide, particularly containing substantial amounts of sulphurous saturation, is commercially available in a similar manner with an alkaline solution, or according to which antimony oxide is treated in the presence of dry alkalis and air.
These known neutralizations can only take place incompletely, however, in the end product there are still substantial amounts of sulphurous acid constituents, which then have a destructive effect on certain dyes, change the color tone and prevent dryness.
The process according to the present invention consists of two fully carried out reactions, of which the first: neutralization of the sulphurous acid constituents by an alkali in the presence of water, formation of alkaline sulphites, is known, and the second: oxidation of the sulphites obtained from the first The presence of water and its conversion into sulphates forms the subject of the invention, which ensures the complete neutralization of the harmful components.
To carry this out, the mixture of the crude antimony oxide commercially available with alkaline solutions is vigorously shaken together and exposed to the action of an air and oxygen stream.
In doing so, the sulphites present are converted into sulphates and a pure white dye suitable for painting purposes is obtained, which does not show the disadvantages mentioned. It can be used in place of zinc white and lead white and has the advantage of greater opacity over these.
According to the invention, the commercially available sulfur dioxide containing antimony oxide obtained by roasting sulfur antimony is placed in a container filled with water. Then gradually an alkaline solution, u. between. Lime solution added, the mixture shaken vigorously and at the same time a stream of oxygen or, more simply, compressed air is introduced into the mixture. When the oxidation is complete, it is pressed and dried.
The drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of a device for carrying out the method according to the invention.
The device consists of a container 1 which is closed by a lid 2 and in which a mixing device is arranged, which consists of a shaft 3 with mixing blades. A pipe 5 provided with a tap 6 opens into the lower part of the container for introducing the compressed air. The antimony oxide suspended in water is placed in the container. After adding the alkaline solution, the mixing device is activated and the substances in the container are intimately mixed. Finally, by opening the valve 6, compressed air is pressed into the container. The collected oxide is dried and then mixed with 01 can be used for painting on its own or mixed with other substances.
