In dieser Weise können beispiel, weise Kohlenwasserstoffe behandelt werden, deren Siedepunkt höher liegt, als die für die Abspaltung des Wasserstoffs ans Schwefelwasserstoff notwendige Temperatur. In diesem Falle kann man den Kohlenwasserstoff mit Schwefelwasserstoff in Gegenwart von Kupfer, bei einer für die Abspaltung des Wasserstoffes aus Schwefelwasserstoff geeigneten Temperatur, in Berührung bringen, z. B. durch Ein- leiten von Schwefelwasserstoff in das Gemisch von flüssigem Kohlenwasserstoff und Kupfer.
