Description

Process for the production of acetylene from methane or other gaseous hydrocarbons The patent 501 179 describes a process for the production of acetylene from methane or natural gas, which consists in that the possibly preheated gas is passed in an electric furnace over fine-piece electrode carbon connected as a resistor will.

Insbesondere kann also z. It has now been found that the yield of acetylene can be improved if a material is used for the resistance heating which offers the gases to be reacted: a particularly large contact surface, and any porous material is suitable, which is the one in question Withstands temperatures (rq.oo to 2ooo ° C-). In particular, z. B. porous coal or a corresponding other carbon-containing material or a material made conductive according to the known method can be used. Example I An electrical resistance furnace, as described and illustrated in the Sor 179 patent, was filled with well-annealed hard coal coke as resistance material instead of with small pieces of electrode carbon and a gas of about 98% methane with a flow time of 1/20 of a second at r 800 ° C passed through. A reaction gas containing 19.5% acetylene was obtained; So around 75% methane has been converted. EXAMPLE 11 In exactly the same way, a resistor material was used which had been produced by pressing, annealing and comminuting an oily slurry of 25% silicon carbide and 75% carbon. A reaction gas containing 18.5% acetylene was also obtained.
