Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

High-voltage arc lamp, especially for war lights.

Various means are known for operating high-amperage arc lamps with anodes which are so much thinner than the commonly used anodes that their diameter at least at the end of the burn remains below the crater diameter of the ordinary anode for the same amperage. Such means are specified in German Patent Nos. 215 177 and 262 913. In the first patent specification a protective tube reaching close to the burning end of the electrode, in the second patent specification for an anode with luminescent additions (effect carbon) a gas or vapor jacket surrounding the electrode.
 EMI1.1
In particular, it is advantageous to replace the gas or vapor jacket with a metal skin of the anode.

This means is far superior to the gas or steam jacket, especially for the reason that there are no devices for generating it. Supply and storage of the gas or steam or the substance from which the gas or steam is generated. required are ; the compulsion to carry such equipment makes it as good as impossible to use a headlight with a gas or steam cooled thin anode in the field. Furthermore, when using the metal skin, the power supply can be accommodated much more conveniently close to the burning end of the electrode, e.g.

   B. in the form of a pair of tongs riding on the rotating electrode, because you are not hindered by any device for supplying or generating gas or steam and you do not need to prevent damage to the power supply by a gas or steam flame.

The light effect is not adversely affected by the evaporating metal skin, neither in terms of thickness nor in terms of color. An anode about 1% cm in diameter, e.g. B. with a cerium and magnesium containing wick and a copper jacket about 1/10 mm thick, loaded with the current of an ordinary anode of about 3 cm in diameter, results in considerably more and whiter light than the ordinary anode.
 EMI1.2
 known from headlights.

However, the present invention is only about anodes for high-voltage arc lamps. whose diameter, at least at the end of the fire, is smaller than the crater diameter of a normal anode for the same current intensity and which could previously only be used with the help of the special devices according to the above-mentioned petitions.

   PATENT CLAIMS:
1. High-voltage arc lamp, especially for war headlights with an anode, the diameter of which is smaller at least at the burning end than the crater diameter of an ordinary anode for the same amperage, characterized in that the anode has a metal skin around the anodes that are otherwise thin for regular operation make the necessary auxiliary means, in particular a gas or steam jacket around the electrode unnecessary.
 EMI1.3
