Absorption von Gasen benutzt werden. Es gelmgt auf diese Weise z. B. verdampfte Flüssigkeiten, die in der Luft nur in sehr geringen prozentualen Mengen enthalten sind, zu absorbieren und wieder zu gewinnen. Auf dieselbe Weise kann man Luft, die reizende oder giftige Gase enthält, reinigen.
Es hat sich nun gezeigt, dass sich die vom Chlorzink durch Auswaschen befreite Kohle in ihrer Absorptionsfähigkeit noch dadurch wesentlich verbessern lässt, dass man sie auf höhere Temperaturen. wie 4000 erhitzt. Versuche haben gezeigt, dass diese Erscheinung nicht auf einem dadurch verringerten Wassergehalt der Kohle, sondern auf anderen unbekannten Ursachen beruht. Die erhöhte Wirksamkeit bleibt nämlich erhalten, auch wenn die Kohle wieder die ursprüngliche Menge Wasser aufgenommen hat.
