Crude oil had not yet been used in calico printing for similar purposes; its use was based mainly on its properties of fixing the clay stain and of being stain for certain dyes (Hummel and Knecht, Färberei, Berlin 18nit, p. 166; Knecht, Rawson and Löwenthal, Färberei, Berlin 1900, p; 337).
In the process of German patents No. 101190 and No. 106708 for producing gray tones with the aid of indigo, the use of oils and also of Turkish red oil is described in the production of the printing ink. However, there is a fundamentally different method which enables the indigo to be attached quantitatively to the banm wool fiber without prior reduction. Apart from this difference, the oil addition also plays the completely opposite role there than here. There it is important to direct the sublimation of the indigo to the deeper layers of the fabric, whereby the oil has a loosening and thinning effect (German Patent No. 101190, 2nd page, 1st floor).
Column above), but in the case of the present method the red oil prevents the ingress of the printing ink, resp. of the indig white into the fiber.
In the present case, this effect only applies to Turkish red oil, while with
