Process for the production of cartridge cases wound from a sheet metal strip,
The known, pressed or drawn from sheet metal cartridge cases have the disadvantage that by pressing or pulling the material of the case shaft is stretched in the lower part of the same, but is compressed in its upper part, so that the cartridge case in the vicinity of the The bottom is weakened, but the upper part is unnecessarily strong and hard. In addition, when the sheet is pressed and drawn, the fibers come into an axial position, as a result of which the tensile strength of the sheet in the direction of the circumference is reduced to such an extent that longitudinal cracks often occur during manufacture.
After the
If the case is loaded practically only in the direction of the circumference, i.e. in the direction in which the strength of the material has been reduced due to the type of production, the formation of longitudinal cracks during shooting is inevitable. In addition, since the sleeve shaft becomes hard at the end of the eyelid when it is pulled on the cold path, the hardening of the material also causes the eyelid to suffer.
Finally, the length of the pressed sleeve is limited to about twice its diameter.
The invention relates to a method for producing cartridge cases, by means of which the aforementioned disadvantage and the consequences resulting therefrom are eliminated. It relates in particular to those cartridge cases whose shaft is wound from sheet metal in a known manner. This method consists in winding the material fibers perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the cartridge in order to increase the resistance against the formation of longitudinal cracks, and this resistance is increased by calibrating according to the rolling process while at the same time completing the shaping.
The ends of the sheet are moderately sharpened in order to make the shaft, which is unrestricted in terms of length and shape due to the winding, smooth on the outside and inside, in such a way that these sharpenings overlap over a certain length.
FIG. 1 of the drawing shows a view of the shaft, FIG. 2 shows a section through the shaft, and FIG. G shows the sheet metal before winding.
The sleeve shaft produced by this process can be given any precise shape and, with the appropriate strength, it also has the necessary elasticity, so that sleeve tears are completely avoided and good lobing and perfect ejection is guaranteed.
